Several years later, Esther finds an amulet in the hotel that allows her to travel to other dimensions. It's fun enough at first, but then she discovers another version of herself, one much less fortunate. And then another. And another. And very soon she finds herself rescuing far too many versions of her and her brothers.

Abaddon, the Cobra King, disgraced half-human prince of the Black Realm, was told on his 10,000th birthday that in order to return to Hell, he must kill the most important person he finds on Earth. 90 loops into saving the Freelings he realises that the most important person was not the one he killed 300 years ago, but the one he has gone through it all to save.

Or, in short, he picked glory over friendship.
