There's truth to this meme, but beyond protecting nature and working with it to create better environments, countries like Poland that are exposed to the dangers of flooding, should build more water retention infrastructure up in the mountains and down on the plains to stop flash-flooding at the right places.

They should use all the technology available to restore natural environments in a symbiotic way with civilian infrastructure and that might require having to change the way things have normally been done, by both people and nature.

What's even more urgent is that all that deadly, yet valuable flood water is flowing to the Baltic and discharging there and then it's gone. All the while Poland's been going through years of summer droughts; in at least the last 5 years we have seen water shortages here, especially in areas where farmers need rain and if not rain, the next best thing is cost-effective irrigation, which the farmers haven't been getting either and the result is they've been losing crops year after year.
