A day that looks like some kind of summer, only with snow. The sun is summer, the mood is summer, and January is on the calendar and there are snowdrifts all around. In such weather, spring can be seen approaching… Yes, despite the blatant cold.

Parts of removed Jewish headstones from Brest, Belarus.

In the late 1940s after the Holocaust, the Communists went about destroying any last remnants of the ancient Jewish community in Brest. The largest Jewish cemetery in Belarus was turned over to become a sports arena. Soviet authorities "recycled" the headstones which are now being found in Belarusian road surfaces, pavements and gardens. Over the past six years 1,500 headstones belonging to the Brest cemetery were found all over the country.
