Priest-like collars and bishop sleeves dominated the runway at the Givenchy spring 2013 ready-to-wear show. Designer, Ricardo Tisci wanted to go, "back to the roots," of house founder, Hubert de Givenchy and his parisian style of the 1960s. (1) He recycled the catholic-inspired designs of his first few collections for the house but with a lighter point of view than his previously morose collections.
With sheer blouses, plunging necklines and sensual silks, it's blasphemy of the highest order, but I must confess- je l'aime. The collection is clean-lined and pristine in pale blue, ecru, black and white, with heavenly gold accents. Sheer, ethereal fabrics produce a feminine appeal in the otherwise Roman-Catholic clergymen inspired looks. Tisci was able to create a collection that delicately balances old-world inspiration and modern silhouettes for a presentation that is cohesive, luxe and lust-worthy.
Tailored pants and elegantly draped gowns are the highlight of the collection for me. Even the gold collars are trés chic. I envision Gwenyth Paltrow donning one of the gowns for the Oscars.
Le grand travail, Monsieur Tisci. Looks like I'll be paying my tithes to the Church of Givenchy come spring.
What do you think of this iniquitous collection?
