this beautiful lady right here is one of alec's best friends. while alec was born & raised in london, he spent a lot of time here during the holidays after his parents split up and his mom moved back to her hometown. so he's probably known this lovely lady since his teens at least (i haven't worked out an exact timeline shh). growing up alec was a flirt and he was known to have a lot of flings and fwb's but he was always very clear that he was never looking for something serious. he's affectionate and craves touch so he was a v. sexual person. whether or not she was always just a friend or she was something more is up for discussion but i think that there were definitely feelings (on both sides) that got ignored or maybe brushed off as 'casual' when that wasn't the case. alec came and went a lot, but he would have definitely stayed in touch with her via the internet, letters, calls, texts, whatever, and always made it a point to spend time with her when he was in town.
when he moved to cali for college he probably made it a point to visit more often and likely offered to fly her out to visit him (he's loaded okay) but again things stayed in a limbo (friends or fwb's w/e) and she was likely around when he was in his messy relationship with his now 6-year-old daughter aurora's 'rory' mom. which when he found out he'd knocked her up was the first time he ever really tried to do the relationship thing. he never planned on having kids but he kind of fell into a domestic role throughout the pregnancy and found he kind of actually liked it - despite the drama with his now ex. a few months after rory was born the ex decided she was not enjoying the role and left the two of them, which was the driving force in alec deciding to move to beaumont, to be near family that could help him navigate being a single dad.
BUT i'd like to offer another option. maybe it's not just him. maybe she's been in a long-term relationship and she's just recently single again too. or maybe she was for a time and both of them were happy with their friendship (possibly fwb) roles for the last couple of years but with him getting back into dating she is like okay fine me too and does the same and triggers his jealousy?
