Romance Systems‬ There are 2 questions I’m invariably asked each semester/quarter: (1) How do i balance my #Catholic faith with my scientific knowledge, and (2) have i always been interested in studying relationships? (Along with how did i know/ what got me interested) Here is one nurture based answer ⬇️ ‪#FinalFantasy7 in 1997 (5th grade) was the first #RomanceSystem i ever experienced‬. In my dozen+ playthroughs of the game, i romanced each deuteragonist at least once, but i always had a preference for Aeris. No, it’s not because my mom is an Aeris or my #GodSister (I hadn’t even met @captainjuicesea yet). There were simply aspects of her personality that were compatibility cues. Ever since then, I’ve primarily only played games in which some romance system & interpersonal interaction dialogue choices were present. I then proceeded to have my first biracial girlfriend in 1998 in 6th grade. ‪Indeed, before #ElderScrolls, #DragonAge, #MassEffect, #Fallout, #AssassinsCreed, #LifeisStrange, or #Asexual love on #OuterWorlds ‬ ‪The #FinalFantasy7remake ‬just came out this weekend, & it is still, quite possibly, the greatest game ever made 🎮 #GreatestGameEverMade (And then in 2013 i realized it was finally possible to play as a female) #GamerGirl #Performativity (at Quarantine 2020) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-6NmfIAbbK/?igshid=s5m92qzvcxvk

So I have a question about the romance system (I don't know if that's the right word but I couldn't think of a better one). I was wondering, and I'm so sorry for having to make comparisons, but do you have to play a certain personally type in order to romance anyone (like Mecha Ace) or you can be any personally type as long as you pick the right options at the right time (like Wayhaven)? I'm so sorry if you already answered this and that I wasted your time.

Don’t be sorry at all, I’m honestly happy to answer any and all questions! :) And this question hasn’t been asked before, either! :)

I unfortunately haven’t read either Mecha Ace or Wayhaven (I want to, but I tend to avoid other CS games when I’m writing so I’m not unduly influenced/compare my own work too much! T0T), but it’s a bit of a mix of both, I think. There are many different scenarios in which you could hit a character’s romance flag; some involve flirting with a character or spending time with a character, some can be somewhat more “random”/less obvious and are rooted in being the type of person that NPC would fall in love with. (For example, Blade dislikes overly-worshipful, coy, or gushy responses, but you could trigger a romance flag for him by giving a response that triggers his protective instincts, or by being a good sport about something.) But because there’s so many different ways to hit those flags, you could feasibly still romance him while not playing the kind of personality he’s most attracted to, although it’s easier to trigger his romance path if you do. (The path won’t trigger until a certain point in the game and you must hit Blade’s admittedly-higher threshold of romance flags.) This way, Blade won’t fall in love with you if you’re playing a completely amoral, selfish asshole who shamelessly flirts with him every chance they get, but you also don’t have to be exactly a certain personality type for him to start liking you, too. I would say it’s more leaning towards the Wayhaven (it’s more about timing and the right choices in the character’s day off scenes) way than the Mecha Ace way, but feel free to ask questions if I need to clarify! ^_^” It’s also a bit hard to describe because the romance system does work slightly differently with each character, too. :) I hope that makes sense??
