Sandor loves Sansa. Even dogs can love, why deny that he loves? That's neither fair nor accurate. He loves her, it's all over the pages. And his "I love you" line is one of the best I've ever read.

Firstly, Sandor is not a dog, he is a man, a human being, who has suffered major emotional trauma (abuse and terror as a child, becoming a child soldier, no true emotional connection to anyone thereafter) that has left him unable to express his feelings (or have many social interactions at all) without resorting to violent language or actual acts of violence. Secondly, if you think I’ve ever denied Sandor’s potentiality to love and express his love to Sansa, that’d be news to me, my followers, and my blog.

Thirdly… reading comprehension is hard, ain’t it?

Well, they went there with the sexuality, he said he wants to fuck her. It would be his one happy memory. And he looked off like he was in love with her, for the 20th time on the show. And in the books after listening to Lysa “sing” her orgasm, she dreams of Sandor in bed with her, and they included a scene like that,too. I bet they come back to that, too.

The scene with Lysa had nothing to do with SanSan. They just showed Sansa looking annoyed. As a pure show-watcher, there's absolutely nothing in that scene to suggest anything to do with Sandor. Yes, Sandor said he "should've fucked her bloody", but that came off as more of a taunt (and kind of a gross one at that... his "one happy memory" would be to fuck her so hard until she bled?? Ew.)... Yes, he looked off into the middle distance when he brought her up, but I'm sure that was more Rory than the writers... SanSan has been completely one-sided on the show. Sandor's feelings for Sansa are pretty evident, but at no point has Sansa expressed any mutuality. She had a last-minute "revelation" during the BoBW that he would never hurt her, and that's all lovely and definitely NEEDS a resolution (it always felt like a "to be continued" moment for me), but again, GRRM wrote that scene and D&D clearly feel unobligated to follow through with even THEIR own writing, so just because they left something open-ended doesn't mean they aren't perfectly willing to leave it that way forever.

They don’t tell stories well, but my guess is we will see that this season is positioning him for the ending. And my guess is the ending is with Sansa.

That certainly makes the most sense. But "D&D" and "sense" don't belong in the same sentence.

I agree. They would not have brought him back at all, if it was up to them. Here’s what I think, based on the way they do things (which is pretty dismissive of the books whenever they can get away with it). This thing with Sansa is too big for them to dismiss. In their own way, they set it up (and yes, by in their own way, I mean not very well, but they don’t set up anything well). They brought him back because they felt they had to, he’s important to Sansa’s ending.

It's strange, then, that they've gone to such lengths to keep them separated, not just physically but emotionally. "A man"?? Meanwhile, Arya can't seem to stop talking about the Hound while in Braavos. It's more than clear which relationship they prioritize.

So, there's only one of two options here: (1) there is no SanSan endgame, so they're going out of their way to avoid it wherever possible; or (2) SanSan IS endgame but they don't want to acknowledge it until they absolutely have to.

D&D aren't subtle, and they seed things very clumsily, but they've never even TRIED to seed anything SanSan-related post-season 2. Sandor/Arya, yes.... hell, they've even seeded Sandor/Brienne more than SanSan! :-/

I am not trying to “negate your point” - you seemed bummed that they may not have brought him back for story reasons and I was trying to cheer you up. I took the “he was always going to come back” comment positively, and thought you might like it.

But my point was that they seemed to be implying they brought him back (whether they meant Sandor the character or Rory the actor) of their OWN volition and no one else's -- that the decision was theirs alone and had nothing to do with what may or may not happen in the books. At no point did they confirm or deny that Sandor IS supposed to come back in the books. Obviously, that doesn't matter to them, but my point being, they could very well be operating independently of canon when it comes to Sandor.

What I think they are implying with “he was always going to come back” is that there is a story reason for his return, just as there is in the books. And I think that reason is Sansa, in both cases.

That seems to be what they were trying to lead us to believe last season, but if the "spoilers" are true, it's definitely not coming to fruition in season 7... :-/
