Ron Miles - Bardo Tank
Way out in Rangely, Colorado there’s an abandoned railroad water-treatment facility that has become a new music hub over the past few decades, thanks to its unique natural reverb and resonance. I haven’t made it out there yet in person, but I’ve been checking out some of the recordings made at The Tank -- including this dream-like session from Denver jazz mainstay Ron Miles. Billowing clouds of trumpet, mystical gongs, shimmering autoharp... Bardo Tank is an incredible recording that you have to hear to believe. Get in The Tank!
Recent though: Ron Miles is probably my favorite contemporary trumpet player. He has appeared on a few jazz albums I’ve gotten into lately and every time he just blows my mind.
Saxophonist Joshua Redman, drummer Brian Blade, bassist Scott Colley, and cornetist Ron Miles’ new album, Still Dreaming, is out now! The album was inspired by the band Old and New Dreams, of which Redman’s father Dewey was a member. "Consistently riveting," says the Washington Post. Get it and listen today here.
RIP to legendary jazz trumpeter
Ron Miles (1963-2022)
