It was common knowledge that the Weasleys weren’t precisely the wealthiest family. Molly had to provide for seven kids along with the help of her husband of course, so having nine mouths to feed, including hers, was a struggle at times but she had always managed.
And Ron really admired his mother for that, that even in the harder times she still prepared hot food for all of them. But because of this, when Ron started dating you, he felt like he needed to provide for you.
He would do all the things his mom and sister had taught him, like opening doors, making you tea when you feel sick, reassuring you, and all of the above, Ron would do whatever he could to make you happy. But as your relationship got more serious, and your one-year anniversary was coming up, Ron really realized something, he did not own a lot of money.
Of course, he knew this all along. But, seeing boyfriends get their girlfriends expensive bracelets, and necklaces for their one year, and even for birthdays made Ron feel insecure.
Leading to him sitting in his room at the burrow, while all his siblings laughed and joked downstairs, he was stuck with the overbearing feeling of thinking he isn’t good enough. You noticed his demeanor change suddenly, and made your way up to his room, knocking on the slightly open door before entering.
“Ron? Are you okay?” You inquired, stepping forward before closing the door behind you. Ron looked up for a second to give you a half smile before nodding his head, only to return to staring at his hands, refusing to make full eye contact with you. You of course knew better, choosing to sit next to him on the edge of the bed while taking his hand in yours and rubbing small figures on the back of his hand.
“Be honest with me Ron.” You pushed. You knew it wasn’t always the best idea to push him, he could get explosive sometimes, but right now? This felt like something that needed an answer.
“I can’t buy you anything too expensive.” He answered, making your eyebrows grow together in confusion.
“I mean, I can’t buy you a lot of nice things. I don’t have a lot of extra money and I just…” He stopped himself before taking his hand away from yours and folding them in his lap. “Can you forgive me?” He asked, which made you worried.
“For what may I ask?”
“For not being able to buy you fancy clothes, or fancy anniversary gifts.” You felt like your heart had been ripped out of your chest at these words.
“Ron-”
“You’ve been with me through everything, you’ve loved me through everything. All you’ve done for me is just…I can’t express in words how much it means to me. How can you love me even though I can’t promise the world to you like other boyfriends.”
You stared at Ron for a moment, surprised by his sudden outburst of insecurity before you placed a hand on his cheek and looked at him with those love-struck eyes he just loved so much.
“I can love you because love doesn’t show itself to people in the forms of materialistic things. You show me so much love through the little things, and for me, that’s enough.” Ron sighed and dramatically threw himself backward onto the bed, looking up at the ceiling in a way to avoid eye contact with you, but also as a way to possibly find answers.
Ron felt stupid, he knew that you loved him but in another way, he didn’t exactly know. He felt conflicted and you could see that in the way his eyes aimlessly stared at the ceiling, expecting an answer to his many questions. You sighed and laid down next to him, letting him wrap an arm around your shoulder and cuddling into his side.
“I love you, even if you can’t get me fancy things Ron.”
“I love you too darling, but I’m still going to try to get you something fancy.” You laughed at his antics and looked up at him, you caught his eyes looking down at you and you smiled again before leaning up and kissing him softly as a way to show what you meant. Ron smiled into the kiss and rolled over so he was on top of you, he held your face in his hands as he broke away from the kiss, letting his eyes stay lingering on yours before lowering himself down and laying on your chest.
You knew you couldn’t explain to Ron how much you loved him, but you knew that through small gestures such as this one, comforting him when he needed it, it might just be enough.
