When Pearl fought Sugilite (right before the "You Ain't Nothing!") was pearl flying? She seemed to be floating and was midair when Sugilite hit her.
no, she wasn’t flying. The most likely reason for that was just dramatic convenience, needing Sugilite to hit her out of the sky while saying that to give the full effect and thus needing to slow it down. Like in movies when someone is deactivating a bomb going off in 5 minutes and the scene takes 10 minutes. This is, afterall, a TV show and the most important thing is to get the tone and mood of a story right. If that requires having a character stay airborne for longer than they logically would, so be it.
If you want an in-universe answer, perhaps Gems can alter the mass or perhaps use minor telekinetic powers they all seem to have to shift the air around them to provide more cushion, thereby slowing their fall. Pearl shifts around clouds in the sky arena in “Sworn to the Sword” so this is a possibility.
but anyway no, Pearl can’t fly (unless she were to turn into something that could fly, I suppose)
