Made for EFC Music Challenge #4 - Cop Show Theme soundcloud.com/groups/music-challenge I was thinking of a Sci-Fi cop show. I used three tracks, all played on my Fender strat with Fishman Triple Play hexaphonic pickup. I tried to create tension and at the same time a sense of airy eeriness.
The melody I played is from a TV commercial from my youth for Nasi Goreng and Bami Goreng in a can. The brand name was Koen Visser and the tune, which was much faster and happier than this track said "Koen Visser, Zo Gemakkelijk" Which means Koen Visser, so easy. It was the first melody I figured out on my own on my guitar around age 16. I recoded the melody with a 60BPM tempo in a loop of about 23 seconds. I used this loop five times on the first track. I used this loop in a staggered fashion on tracks two and three. I filtered each track differently. I noticed the loop would work nice as a canon, so I played with that a little bit. Hope you like it better than the food. Fried rice and noodles from a can was not exactly palatable if my memory serves me well. This is my contribution to Music Challenge #6 designed by @Bellyfullofstar. I recorded a variety of metallic object sounds in my house and used these recordings in Molekular (NI)in one take. As I was doing the recording of this piece I had feelings related to the MH17 crash come into my heart unexpectedly. I decided to dedicate this track to all the 298 victims who died in a metal tube in the sky. I will never forget this event as long as I live. I am glad I found some creative expression, even by accident, for feelings that have been mulling around. I know these feelings now just a little better.
I recorded my lawn sprinkler. It's been very dry in RI the past few weeks. I manipulated this recording with Molekular (NI). I matched the inherent tempo in the field recording to 78 BPM. I then added the beat patch from Alchemy, which I controlled with my guitar. Last I recorded and manipulated my voice saying: Sprinkle sprinkle little lawn Where have all your grass blades gone? When you live in a neighborhood it is a bit risky to get out equipment. Before you know it almost everyone will follow suit. Like a Pavlov reaction. So I made the sprinkler a bit more aggressive to drown out the neighbors'.
