Chinese Balls, Ben Wa Balls, Kegel Balls, Geisha Balls… What are they?
This has been a growing subject here in Australia and New Zealand, as more and more women understand the importance of these balls. But what are Chinese balls? What are the real benefits of using them? During my career, I have discussed this subject on multiple occasions with my clients as the usage can have significant benefits for women. Here we share with you a definite guide to Chinese balls and teach about the many positive effects they can have on us women. We will explain how to use them, what they are for, what position is best for using them, recommended time, different types and how they help us to strengthen our pelvic floor and vaginal muscles, which, consequently, increases the intensity of our orgasms and helps us fight urinary incontinence that can sometimes take us by surprise when sneezing or during spontaneous laughter. Chinese balls are, in fact, an extremely important for our sexual health and general wellbeing.
What are Chinese balls? Chinese balls are two balls connected by a cord, although there also exists a version with a single ball for beginners, younger girls, or for particular cases such as women with uterine descent/prolapse. The balls are always attached to an extraction cord which should always lie outside of the vagina. The Chinese balls are placed inside the vagina and strengthen the pelvic floor muscle that needs toning and to be strong since its most important functions to support the vagina, bladder, and rectum.
What is the mechanism of Chinese balls? This point is very important to understand their benefits. The Chinese balls contain in turn small balls, a single ball inside which rotational movements are activated by our own body movements and cause small vibrations. The vaginal muscles are small and easy to work and with these small vibrations, which do not involve any effort, we can manage to improve muscle strength in a surprising way. The Chinese balls are usually made of medical silicone and/or ABS, a hypoallergenic material, super hygienic, easy to clean, and ultra-smooth texture for comfortable insertion and extraction.
How do you insert Chinese balls? It’s very simple. Relax, and then in the same way you insert a tampon, you slowly insert the first ball, and then the second one inside your vagina by pushing your finger up and letting the extraction cord hanging outside your vaginal opening. To make it even more comfortable, you can add a little bit of water-based lubricant, but never silicone-lubricant because that will actually ruin the silicone in the Chinese balls as it breaks down the surface and makes them gummy and gross.
In what position should I wear them and what should I do? The important thing is walk around with them, move. Chinese balls are effective when the small ball balls inside move and vibrate. Nevertheless, we recommend you do it at home to start with to get used to the sensation and gradually gain comfort and confidence. When do Chinese balls become necessary? Always! The consequences of gravity and aging combined with the weight of the urine can lead to urine loss and progressive deterioration of the pelvic floor if not exercised. Just as we are used to take care of our bodies by regularly hitting the gym, eating healthy food, and taking care of the skin as we age, it’s important not to forget our sexual and intimate life.
It is highly recommended though, to use Chinese balls after pregnancy. For nine long months the vaginal walls have been supporting the foetus, an extra weight that has weakened them. If the birth was natural, they have suffered more since the vagina has dilated and needs to recover. There are many women who begin to suffer urinary incontinence after childbirth. Fortunately, more and more gynaecologists recommend them to accelerate the recovery process. However, it's not recommended to use them during pregnancy, because during pregnancy you want to increase elasticity of the vaginal walls not tighten them further.
How long should I wear the Chinese balls? The first weeks it’s enough to wear them for 15 to 30 minutes, for three to five days a week, and as you get stronger it’s recommended you gradually increase the time, and even go up to 60 minutes. It is not advisable to do more, as you don’t want to over-train. Think about this as any other workout routine in the gym, where you train for about an hour and then allow your muscles to recover with rest days in-between. When will I start feeling the benefits? As with any other training routine, if you train with consistency you will see that in less than a month you will begin to feel the results; a feeling of greater strength of the pelvic area, greater control of the vaginal muscles (ideal to avoid those annoying losses of urine during sneezing or intense laughter), and an exceptional increase in sensitivity and pleasure during sex.
Why does the sensitivity of orgasms increase when I train with Chinese balls? An orgasm of medium intensity contains between 3 and 5 contractions per minute, and an intense orgasm generates between 10 and 15 contractions per minute of the pelvic muscle.
