This blog turns 2 today 🥲
PSA to please block / unfollow / whatever, because I have no tolerance for anti-mask, pandemic antisemitic dogwhistle / anti-asian conspiracy bullshit, or fearmongering. There’s been so much neglect on behalf of the government (Canada, US, UK are what I’m most familiar with), there’s nothing subtle about it. New Zealand is essentially functioning as normal right now because of the measures they took. No rent/mortgage relief, not paying people to stay home, and implementing half-assed mask and social distancing mandates are what has caused such a spike in mental health issues.
If you can’t wear a mask for some reason you should not be out, plain and simple. Washing your reusable masks, replacing disposable ones frequently is effective at protecting yourself and others from the spread. I am so tired of cowardly, weak-willed, lazy, selfish attitudes about a deadly pandemic as well as a mass disabling event. My girlfriend and her mom area still experiencing the longterm effects of covid over a year later, and her mom had a stroke recently. I’ve seen three YOUNG people on social media talk about developing faceblindness from ministrokes after having covid.
This isn’t a fucking joke. Even if you had mild symptoms, you won’t know the state your lungs are in until you get a usually way milder infection (the common cold) and it leads to hospitalization or death. You can’t know what your cardiovascular system is damaged until you have a heart attack or stroke out of the blue. Even if you think you’re FINE, your unique experience does not negate the thousands of people who have died and become disabled from Covid. It’s so much more inconvenient and taxing to deal with neurological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and respiratory damages for the rest of your life, than it is to wear a mask.
I’ve been pretty absent for a while, so if we’re mutuals or you’re still active, please react to this post!
Add me as a buddy if you’re doing NaNoWriMo! The username is neuroweird. I’m doing a Zombie Apoc thriller/romance.
“But a Monster” second first draft update: now taking more from the mystery genre, there’s a body and Thea will be finding it.
