amsterdam fashion week: roparosa

the brief roparosa f/w 2011 collection launched the second day of afw with attitude to spare in the edgy sportswear. the line had a bit of eighties punk chic in the loose garments, fitted in all the right places and radiating from a central point on the body.
roparosa is designed by roos van der camp, a young award-winning dutch lady whom one feels is probably her own best model, and just the right age for knowing what bright sharp things who lately count lisbeth salander among their heroines would want to don. the clothes had a geometry to them, which was carried into the shoes and accessories, both dashing and a little scary, to ward off repugnant bar flies wanting to get a little too close, without knowing what his lust object might be made of.
the models' side-slicked hair and streaky makeup added to the aforementioned effect, and while maybe this wasn't the height of experimental genius art fashion, it certainly presented a different type of woman than the cotton candy-wrapped sugar cube or thrice-divorced botoxed, liposuctioned, and pilates-ed (into the picture of dewy youth) late forties woman we've been seeing a whole lot of at the recent couture shows. and that makes the fall roparosa collection look just divine.
