I love walking away with a different perspective. A year ago at this time I walked into this arena with an open mind. I really didn’t know much about roping steer, so I thought I should just watch and see. These steer are athletes!! I understood the cowboy’s athletic perspective and even the horses, but as the evening unfold there were signs the steer were just as much athletes as the other two. First they have their athletic gear on, the specially made head/horn strap thing that protects them from the rope. Next, it was clear to me that they knew their goal was to go to point A to point B without getting caught. When they got caught, they moseyed back to the holding pen clearly disappointed. However, if they did not get caught they pranced in front of their friends mooing like crazy and super proud.
