Anon. Open a citibank account. There is citibank in Korea and overseas citibankers get free withdrawals. Also if you open a citibank korean account you can transfer your money instantly from your us account.

You can actually set up temporary bank accounts with just a passport. The difference between these accounts is that you have to go back every 2 or 3 months to confirm that you’re still in Korea.

KB let me open an account with a check card straight away with my passport, but once I got my foreigner registration card they updated it and it was all good, if that helps!
