Name: Rory Barnes
Pronouns: she/her
Setting: modern fantasy - magical realism
Occupation: muscle for hire
Backstory:
In a world where many humans are born with minor magical abilities, Rory has the ability to access people's memories via physical touch. It takes a while, it's painful, and the target usually struggles to break free, but it works. Thanks to this power, she was sought out by the military and pressed into service on a special ops team, where she was responsible for grappling enemy combatants and extracting their secrets by force.

In Special Ops, work was stressful on a good day and traumatic on a bad one. Rory suffered hearing loss from constant close proximity to gunshots and explosions, and the (highly unethical) work weighed on her conscience. Finally, everything came to a head when her squad ended up on a top-secret job where they learned a little too much. They staged an escape together, officially going on the run from the government.
Once she got out, Rory remade herself, cutting her hair, getting hearing aids, and discovering a passion for cute clothes and sweets. It wasn't all easy going, though. In order to keep hiding from the government, she took on under-the-table jobs, starting off as a bodyguard and working her way up to heist work, all using the hand-to-hand combat skills she learned in Special Ops. These days, she's one of the best in the business—an unbeatable brawler with a mysterious past that she doesn't talk about.
Trivia:
Rory still keeps in touch with her squad! Their names are Percy, Quinn, Sreya, and Trinity. Quinn is into blacksmithing these days and it's really doing him some good.
She currently works with a heist team of two other people: Nick, the face, and Vanessa, the demolitions expert. It's very enriching for her.
Rory is an adrenaline junkie and likes fighting people (as long as no one's dying and she's not using her powers). She also likes skydiving and similar activities.
'Rory' is short for something but she'll never tell what.
