"Tell me about this Rosa girl."

“Well…..where do I even start?” Already he seems to glow; sure, it had been a while since he had last seen her, but that didn’t really make him love her any less. She understood she was busy with a lot of things. What was the phrase…absence makes the heart grow fonder?

“She’s from Unova, and she might seem a little dainty at a first glance, she’s anything but. I don’t think I need to ask if you know she’s a Champion. She’s completely genuine and so so kind.”

He does pause a bit, as if realizing something. “She’s very dedicated too. Champion duties, plus nursing and films? If I didn’t know any better…I would think that she’s doing all of this as if she’s running out of time…”

His face becomes sad, and a bit contemplative. He then chuckles softly, rubbing the back of his neck. “She’s very dedicated, is what I’m getting at. Adorable, kind, beautiful….I think you’d really like her, Mom.”

Somehow she’s not surprised. “Cat hoarder.” Said the woman holding a 3 week old Alolan Meowth kitten in her arms.

    “... tis only hoarding if one lacks the ability to take care of their possessions.” Be those possessions real or digital, of course. Digital cats need no space; while a château fort with a hundred rooms is plenty enough room for, say, twenty sweet little kittens and their elders. 

     He could probably adopt a few more without any problem, he thinks. 

     Like, perhaps, one of the sort that she carried. Common as Meowths may be, they were a darling species, and these darkly grey furred adaptions were absolutely lovely. Royalty, if he remembered correctly, which meant they would suit his collection of perfectly bred felines quite well.

    “Miss Rosa...”

    It could be said that, perhaps, it was a Hero who knew his Patron best; the bond between a legend and their hero was meant to be strong, even greater than any other. This certainly rang true in the case of Ciro and Kyurem---however many thousands of years had past, he still possessed a certain understanding of the dragon that few else seemed to, despite knowing so little of what had happened in the centuries of his absence. 

    “If I know anything about him, then it is that he would not push you away like that with the intent to hurt you.” 

    Even in the days of Isshu, Kyurem - then Isshurem, the Great Dragon - had been known to keep a certain sort of distance; understandably so, after so many years of watching the people around him come and go. After Isshu’s fall - the guilt that must have weighed so heavily on him as it now with Ciro -  and whatever had occurred that led to him becoming who and what he is today... he can only imagine why Kyurem would act the way he did.

    “Kyurem... you must understand, Miss Rosa, he has lived through more suffering than anyone had ought to. Like you, I have been friends with him since I was a child. Even since ancient times, there has been a whole world of responsibility weighing on his shoulders; an entire kingdom trusted him as a guardian, and sadly, many were killed when he could not fulfill such responsibility---he lost many he cared about, some even betrayed him... 

    “I believe, deep down, he fears you more than you fear him---at least, becoming close to you again.”

It isn’t uncommon for his mind to wander back to his previous students, wondering what it was that they were doing or how they were progressing on their journeys. Maybe it’s because he has a sentimental side he’s yet to acknowledge or maybe it’s because he’s a natural worrier; he doesn’t know, but what he does know is that he likes to make little phone calls to make little check ups or to see if there was anything else he can help with. As a teacher and a self-proclaimed guide to help lead trainers to success, he felt like he should do that much. 

So he scrolls through his contacts with a certain person in mind, pressing the name as he waits out he dial tone. Beep, beep, beep emits from the device and he’s inwardly wondering if she’ll answer. If she doesn’t, however, he can always call back at yet another convenient time.
