finally finished this, ugh lol. Redesigns of Tobleron’s circus crew, now in Futh! Old designs/refs can be found here. While these are their canon design, I’ll do a proper, clean ref for each whenever I’ll be in the mood to. I’m going to re-introduce them in the most succinct manner i can, all the while mentioning the new context things. One last thing; this is also a size chart, lol.

Sundae; has a clean ref and proper introduction here. In short, Tobleron’s circus is meant to scare the audience, rather than entertain them- and Sundae, who joined the crew as a child, was sort of raised to do just that. Whether he’s good at scaring people is subjective, because he’s essentially a feral child in an adult body, and only knows somewhat violent clown tricks and strange childish pranks such as putting bugs in people’s hair.

Tobleron; the ringmaster, who’s actually a Pride+Chaos typed Cedraite. He’s one of the VERY few Cedraites who managed to ‘escape’ Futh’s mantle; i’ll explain how he did it in another post. Either way he LOVES to scare Futh people, and wants them all to experience ‘true fear’ at each of his shows. His circus is a travelling one, so he can scare a maximum of people. His secret goal is to have members that are twisted as he is, so that’ll eventually join him in whatever bad place they'll end up when they die. He hopes it’ll be the Nightmare factories of Futh’s dream world.

Sazae-Oni; The Strongman of the crew, who’s one of the few members who DOESN’T like to scare people. He was quite the hero back in his native country, in which he killed monsters whose heavy skulls serve as dumbbells. He thinks Tobleron is also a monster as well and is always suspicious of him.

Sailoon; An amphibian clown who joined after a special, underwater show at sea. He's somewhat strange, even by the circus’ standards and is unpredictable. One moment he’ll do a colorful bubble show, the next he’ll kill birds without eating them.

Liegeois; a shy mime who’s Sundae’s circus partner- he’s very often the victim of Sundae’s scary antics. Even if he had the strength to complain, Tobleron wouldn’t listen anyway. He doesn’t want to scare, but is usually peer pressured to.

Moiris’ Priest: Idk if he’s a rock person or a polygon person. Either way one eye and his horns work like solar panels. The more sunlight he gets, the more energy he has. He doesn’t actually care that much about clowns and is more a priest of optimism. He can sound like a inspiration quote bot sometimes.

Fruitbugs creator Kraton: Is this...? Yes! YES! the brainless Man himself <3 he’s wearing a blanket as a cape, in case that‘s not clear. He gets strange dreams every night, depicting a strange world with furless apes using futuristic technology. While this world is completely fictional in Futh's universe, it might sound familiar to you. Either way, Kraton takes these visions as being a godly gift- from gods even more powerful and mighty than Quibris and Cedra. He even made up a religion about it all and praises it on the street of his village. It's very rural and VERY in the middle of nowhere, so at best he gets called the village freak, at worst people create various schemes such as the stick box trap to entertain themselves. Though Kraton doesn't really care and holds unto his precious tinfoil hat, which he believes is a holy artefact worn by the smartest people in his dreams' world. No one else on Futh, or anywhere else in the universe has these dreams/sees this world- it's not even part of the Dream world or the Nightmare ocean of Futh.When he's not in the streets praising his fictional gods, Kraton works on his game Fruitbugs, in which he makes everything, and adds magic runes in the code to make his characters sentient. He learned how to make a game from his dreams and from his studies in the Purple Islands, in which he learned how to build machinery that works with magic. His game is the only video game in all of Futh, so it's extremely popular. But since he lives in the middle of nowhere, he has no idea how successful his game is- and his fans don't know his identity or where he lives. He's vaguely aware that there ARE people who play his game from what fruitbugs characters say, but Kraton doesn't really care. He's not interested in fame and just likes to have 500 fictional boyfriends.

Lulu’s Priest the second (the first one is even more of a wip, and can’t be posted in public yet): The only word that i can think of to describe his character is acariâtre. Which is french and, according to google, cantankerous in english. I learned a new word, and so have you with the french one. Educational. Also he’s a priest dedicated to Lulu, but more to the nostalgia and night sides of him- he actually hates jesters and can’t tell anyone about it bc otherwise he feels he’d get... What’s the priest equivalent of fired? Well given how the followers are jesters, that might more be like ‘i’m going to throw an egg on that guy so he understands what i think of him and his opinion’. He’s a mammal if his species isn’t clear; albeit a weird one since one of his parents was a mammal+reptiloid hybrid (hence the ‘human’ face, that reptiloids can have). He’s friends with Moiris’ Priest and they share a similar silent dislike of clowns and jesters.

Canyon Merman, Lagune: desert canyon rivers are rly cool. He lives in one. that’s it

Nightmare Centipede: A sentient nightmare who says he has a circus, but it’s a trick to make people go towards even scarier nightmares (his friends). It’s very rare to have a sentient nightmare use others’ help, so he’s pretty popular and liked among Nightmare factories owners and employees. He doesn’t stick to specific brands either, so anyone can benefit from his help. His ‘hair’ is actually tongues- they wriggle and are covered in saliva. His visible eye is constantly rolling 360degrees, and quite fast too so it looks like he has several pupils/irises. He might actually have several, but his eye never stops spinning so it’s hard to tell. He has his heart on the outside (inside the mouth on his stomach/abdomen) but since he’s a sentient nightmare, he can’t truly die- unless he gets forgotten and/or is not able to scare people anymore.

Namah Matarah (temporary name, from his insp song): Two back-of-the-head tails, and four regular tails. Splitting tails is a common practice among Reptiloids from ancient families- and Namah Matarah not only happens to be one of them, but also is their ‘leader’ of some kind. He has high influence and political power among his kin. Depending on how you look at him, he can be nicer than he looks or more cruel than he seems- he often makes schemes to make a group of people happy, all the while quietly taking resources from another. Said groups can be among his kind, others, rich or poor people- he can take from and give to anybody and has only bias towards old reptiloid families (rich or not). His current colors are mostly from this character

fruitbugs wips; Passion Fruit and Catalpa Bean! Passion Fruit is a Simaetha jumping spider, he can breathe smoke for some reason. He’s mysterious and tends to be clingy, especially of people he has common interests with. His are astral projecting, psytrance music, and daydreaming. He’s meant to be a personalisation of psytrance! Catalpa Bean is a priest who can control wind and that believes in many non-tangible deities. Said deities are actually everyday things, like ‘the big light god who opens flowers’ is the sun, the ‘many white gods who watches from the skies’ are clouds, and much more. His religion’s version of Evil are mostly birds and insecticide. Catalpa is actually nicer than all the other fruitbug priests- he doesn’t mind non-believers and doesn’t force his religion on anyone. He also happens to be Candletree fruit’s rival. Not sure what kind of bug he is, so far.

Sorry for the same post posted twice, but tumble is having trouble with me and wouldn’t let me edit the former one where everything was out of order. this is my 6th attempt posting this. Joy.

Took a break from my challenge thing to do some new fruitbug chara sketches, to have a concrete ‘base’ to improve on and to create the ‘final’ design out of. Most of them are relatively unfinished concept/personality wise and might change during the process, but here’s quick introductions for each, starting from top lefts to bottom right.

1) Rose Apple; not a sona! Rose apples are actual fruits. And this guy’s a cis male. There’s the full info about him written here. But basically he’s a Pink Spotted Ladybug and a 50s hannah montana; a ‘normal’ person most of the day and a star at night! And the ‘normal’ side of him is pretty much a 50s housewife- as a result right at the start, his affection meter is on 100%; but he’s not truly happy and doesn’t truly loves the player- he’s just obeying his program that SAYS he loves the player. It’s up to the latter to discover about his star persona and let him do what makes him most happy. He’s Pippin Apple’s sibling, hence why the latter is there on the side and why there’s two versions of both of Rose apple’s sides; because my goal with characters (and especially with Fruitbugs!) is that they can be recognized from one another from shape alone, and I feel like Pippin and Rose look TOO much like each other... And both body types differ slightly but idk which is better/more distinguishable from Pippin.

2) Raspberry; he’s a Red Indian Scorpion, and is essentially my design for a personification of speedcore. This is a concept i’ve had for years but that is, for some reason, difficult for me to expand on, so his personality is still pretty vague, outside of the fact that he’s very harsh and angry- but not at anyone in particular. He’s just hyperactive and has no patience, but he doesn’t blame anyone for that either; in fact it’s very hard to get his attention, and when you have it you have to react quickly or he’ll turn back to whatever he was doing. He’s like that 97% of the time and looks like his ‘anger’ form pictured on the right, and like the left, calm form for the remaining 3% of the time where, he’s, well, calm. If YOU got him to be calm, you might as well have a golden trophy and his undying love immediately, because that must be one of the hardest things to do in the game. Raspberry does have a mouth but it only appears when it's needed.

3) He’ll either be called Pink Guava and Rainier Cherry; but either way he’s also a concept i’ve had for years. He’s a delinquent that lives in a very synthwave 80s like city, that looks like a mix between Los Angeles and GTA’s Vice City; and he acts like he’s the fiercest guy in the whole town and wears things that have drug references on them, but in reality his crimes are schoolyard-worthy (he actually steals children lunches) and if he sees actual weed he’ll say he’ll call the police. But won’t, because he’s too shocked to do so- he just saw a REAL drug thats just crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4) Persimmon- maybe idk because he doesn’t even remotely look like a persimmon. Also a years old concept i’m doing, are you seeing a pattern? But for this one there’s several concepts in mind; 1) he's a wasp that pretends he's a bee; not sure why yet but probably so people can see him positively. 2) he's a wasp that is a pop star and advocates for wasps being seen as good. 3) he's a bee and a farmer/beekeepeer (the bees are actually his family and they work because they want to). Idk which i’ll pick, or if i’ll just fuse concepts together. Either way i actually have in mind his personality and let me tell u: whatever his concept will be, one of the only Fruitbugs that *isn’t* annoyingly narcissistic and that you CAN hug (and will GENUINELY appreciate you doing so).

5) Scarlet Spur- previously refered to as Red apple in this post. He’s the king of the Coupe de Fruits castle, which is a Fruitbug level who’s almost exactly like Versailles; and like the latter, the society in there is at best beyond snobbish and at worst a (very entertaining) drama cesspool. Scarlet Spur used to rule along with King Apple, which he was in platonic relationship with; but unlike Apple, Scarlet is a BAD king and chased his former partner out of the castle, so he could rule it alone and make the residents praise and love him daily. His narcissism is so great that despite being possible to date, Scarlet spur will NEVER consider the player (or anyone else for that matter) as an equal, or even worth his time.

Test design for Eucothea’s Chamberlain- to get a basic idea of what he looks like to gave an easier time to see what needs to change and what doesn’t. He’s marine reptiloid

I’m still working on his personality, but i know are that 1) he’s both rational and pessimistic- and he tells Eucothea about the worst *possible* scenarios that can come with her choices as a queen and as an optimistic, hopeful person. She believes that mixing their drastically different point of view can make rational yet positive choices and outcomes. 2) He isn’t super interested in Eucothea’s plan of interacting with Landwellers- he isn’t against it, he just doesn’t care and just likes his high social status as the queen’s right hand. 3) The shell he’s looking into is a mirror. I feel like that says a lot about what he’s most interested about.

Currant- he’s a wip fruitbug; i’m satisfied with his overall look, EXCEPT his haircut which is, ironically, the one that took the longest time to get satisfied with. (Basically if i have trouble with a design part, i do another layer(s) where i try different things to see what works and what doesn’t.) Currant’s haircut took a LONG time and i settled on this one thinking i’d stay satisfied with it… But yes and no bc i like it but looks like that one kh’s character haircut and his colors are similar as well, so i want to have Currant BOT look too much like that guy lol. As for what bug he is, a mantis but idk which one. It used to be a black and red one, who upon research i found out is actually the NYMPH of orchid mantids i think? Which is a problem because this character is supposed to be young (21) but not THAT young. Can you tell this is a wip? I’m joking but wips are important in creative process, and i think it’s ok to show that.

I’ll probably have more to say about Currant when he’ll be ‘finished’/i’ll be 100% satisfied with him, but here’s what i have so far. Fruitbugs tend to be relatively meant to be ageless (the only ‘exception’ is Lemon- he has to be old enough to be a dad with adult kids)- but Currant was programmed to be 21 at his creation. Why such a choice? Because Currant is based around the emo and/or tsundere boy stereotype, and he was made to appeal to young adults who still like those kind of characters. Currant is more tsundere than emo- it’s much easier to make him angry than sad and he rarely has monologues about how Dark his life is. A reason for his lack of negativity is that he was given power- specifically, his scythe that has ridiculously good attack and critical stats in the game. If he wanted, Currant could make quick work of non-dateable monster foes in the Fruitbugs game; but he doesn’t, because he thinks monsters are ‘cool and kinda cute’. He’d have a much harder time dealing with ‘Fruitbug threats’ (read: the bad guy ones), but if he was willing to sacrifice a few lives and have over an half-hour boss fight, maybe he could do it. But again, he doesn’t, because- and i quote- ‘I don’t care’. So what does he care about? Well, Fruitbugs that make fun of him- especially if they make fun of him for being the youngest of all of them (basically they call him a baby/larva). Now THAT will give him the will to fight. As for his interactions with players, he’s a big tsundere and thinks he’s really cool. Whether you humour him and praise his cool self or try to look for his softer side, he’ll have a positive response to it. His softer side is that he’s really nostalgic and does his best to hide his interests in ‘childish things’ (because then the mockery for him being the youngest would probably get worse). His interests includes collecting ‘pocket monsters’ (whatever that is!!!!), plushies (of various things, can go from cute bunnies to multi-eyed dragons), stickers of ‘cool things’ (that he puts everywhere in his room- including on the ceiling) and basically anything from the fabled ‘2000s’. If the player not only finds out about this side of Currant, and encourages it- or better! Shares the same interests, he’ll COMPLETELY drop the ‘cool guy with a OP scythe’ act and show he’s really invested in his interests and cares about anyone who shares them.

GGGHHHH i finally found a way to access desktop tumble, only had to do blog/(me)/new/photo directly into the address bar instead of accessing this site normally via dash or something wooooWWW RLY GOOD.. NORMAL WEBSITE...

anyway. This is Pomelo and and i’m not entirely sure i’m 100% satisfied with this design; i need some time to think about it. These times around doing that helps me getting ideas on how to make the design more satisfying, as well as developing the personality/concept further. Which Pomelo kinda needs; so far the only things i have about him are that he’s an hermit crab, who’s so strong he doesn’t need his shell anymore. Instead he uses it as a club to fight off sharks and other dangerous sea creatures; he’s pretty much a coast guard. I say ‘pretty much’ because he doesn’t accept any kind of payment- for him, happiness is better than any amount of money. When he’s not being a coast guard, he tries to make sure everyone on the beach has a good time.

Two new characters- Chaos (small one) and Order (tall one) that are actually WIPs! I’m not sure if i want them to be Fruitbugs or Cedra Creations/demons- so in the meantime and to get a grasp on their basic design, i made these. When i have trouble with a design, i prefer to make a defined ‘base’ first, that i can distort/monsterify in my head; that’s usually how i make Fruitbugs true forms too. Their designs may be wips, but their concept is relatively clear in my head- so i’m just going to copy-paste what i wrotre about them on Toyhouse. Also note that Chaos and Order are temporary names- they’ll eventually get a better one, or if they’re Fruitbugs it’s gonna be fruit names as usual lol

Two siblings who are pop performers and pretty weird. Their voices are otherworldly and their dancing is more like erratic twitching. Their concerts are actually so strange that they’re hypnotizing, and that whenever they perform, it’s treated like a small crisis, as serious as a swarm of locusts or a sinkhole.

Chaos is the smaller of the two; he’s also the most ‘popular’ and the one who should be looked out for; since he’s essentially the one most responsible for hypnotizing people, make them act like ‘fans’ and also attracting anyone who has the misfortune of hearing his voice, making them join the ‘fans’. He can create black and white swirls out of thin air and use them as bullets, to throw at anyone who tries to crash his and Order’s concert or who tries to free the hypnotized people. If someone/the player were to separate Order from Chaos, the latter will feel like he can’t perform, and won’t do anythimg that involves hypnosis. Chaos is a difficult person to talk to- he truly adores performing and tends to talk only about that. One might even realize that he doesn’t seem to have knowledge that doesn’t relate to performing- even with things as simple as ‘what’s the term used to refer to a baby dog‘. The person CAN try to tech him things, but he might just end up incorporating it in his performance in one way or another. Romancing is very hard and will have to go only his way for a while- but at some point he might actually start asking things about the other person... Or rather, if they like to perform, and if so, what they do on stage. With a LOT of patience, it is possible to have a two way relationship with him- but he might eventually reveal that he knows he isn’t a very functional person, especially without Order.

Order is the tallest, and the least popular, and he knows it. He actually very insecure and not as much into the whole hypnotizing thing as his brother is- but he does so anyway, because that’s the closest thing he can get to ‘be loved’ by others. Order is so insecure that he tends to copy his brother, making it look like they’re performing together, when in reality Order isn’t really into it. If the player/someone is able to separate Chaos from Order, and give the latter a chance to be himself, he’ll change drastically. Order’ll be overly grateful and will like the person- but, 1) he’ll like them because they give him positive attention, not for who they are as a person and 2) he might actually reveal his true self, who’s just as malicious as Chaos. Instead of hypnotizing people and essentially forcing them to watch their concert, Order’s way of doing things is forcing others to do things HIS way, no matter what said ‘things’ are. And HIS way happens to be orderly, overly so, to a very strict point. It doesn’t help that because of his insecurity, Order is a perfectionist- so if he tells you to trim a tree, it has to be done in a perfectly spherical or cubic way on all sides of the tree, and so on. Even if the person who gave him love to begin with tries to change his ways, he won’t listen- the only person he’ll listen to is Chaos... Also, Order can create black and what squares out of thin air and use them as bullets at well.
