Being a rider with anemia would suck ass. Imagine your dragon stands up suddenly while you’re on their back, and now you’re blacking out for like five seconds while they stare at you like, “…Remind me why I chose you again?”

I think one of my biggest grievances with the Empyrean fandom at the moment is whenever someone says that an animated series would work so much better than a live-action (because trust me, it would), so many people get offended by the idea that their favorite books could be cartoons -- which, corrections aside, is so unneeded. Where does this hate for animation come from, genuinely? Does everyone think that animations are automatically for children? Give me some reasoning to work with, people.
There are so many animated shows for adults, but if The Empyrean were animated like, say, Arcane:
Then the series would feel more fantastical than it ever could with live-action. Of course, support all artists, but CGI dragons and signets and actual people just wouldn't hit as hard as they would in this specific style. And, of course, it could give animators a great shot at employment for a project so big, since visual artists are losing their jobs rapidly due to the increased use of AI in the art field.
And if your only reason as to disliking animation is because, "The sex scenes won't look good!!!!!1!!!" then I cannot take your opinion seriously. Less than 5% of the first book is smut. Get real.
The next time I see an artist make fanart for every character BUT Sawyer, it is on SIGHT.
Oh, to be Imogen Cardulo's femme gf that she slings her arm around protectively whenever we walk through Aretia together. I dye her hair while sitting on her lap, and I get kisses on the cheek in exchange.
Rant time: Why do people always characterize Sawyer as someone who’s extremely anxious and soft in fics? Obviously if that’s how you perceive him, fair enough — but he’s not really like that at all. Sure, he can be awkward, and he’s definitely one of the quietest members of Second Squad, but he’s not a shy, mumbling mess. Dude bonded with Sliseag, a Red — and Reds don’t appreciate weakness, as we know. Yeah, he got nervous approaching Jesinia at first, but he was literally trying to speak to her with little to no experience in sign language. He can talk to people just fine, and while he does have his moments of anxiety, he’s not ALWAYS doubting himself and what he does. Let the man be soft and quiet while also letting his confidence and ferocity shine through. Before he was anything to us, he was a soldier, and a pretty damn solid one at that. He threatens to kill people just for looking at his squad wrong. He kicked a wyvern in its fucking face and got his leg ripped off just to protect his dragon. If all you can do with his character is assign him to the shy background character, I don’t think you really read the books.
my favorite random little thing in the empyrean is when the dragons do that thing where they let their riders literally see from their perspectives because then i get to do my cool headcanon thing where the rider’s irises change to whatever color eyes their dragon has (because that’s COOL dammit)
Idk if any of my moots are into Drag Race but GAWD I am in love with Ciara Myst. She may not last long but I adore that woman to bits
my favorite recurring thing in xaden fics is when his shadows curl up reader’s legs/arms like yes yes yum yum please do
