Samuel John Lamorna-Birch (1869 - 1955)
Summer Evening, The Still Pool, Deveron, near Rothiemay
Former derelict mansion ‘Rothiemay’ located on Sydney’s north shore in Wahroonga is one of the largest surviving mansions of its time. Built on the site of a larger 19th Century sandstone and wrought iron mansion. Rothiemay was constructed in 1939. It fell into disrepair and was bought in 1988, by Jim Neale, who after almost two decades of living there was “camping” in the first floor section of the house. The house was sold in 2014 and was granted a heritage listing which gave the new owners the push to restore the home to its former glory. Even if some of the funding came from construction of six terraced houses on the lower terrace of the gardens.
