We don’t know about you but when we were litte the zipline on the playground was our absolute favourite. If you are like us and you’re just missing an adult version of it, as well as want to adventure native forest from up high, this canopy tour is for you!
First of all we got kitted out at the “Rotorua Canopy Tour” base. We were only three people on the tour (ten people max. on a tour) plus two guides, which was awesome. We then had a ten minute drive via their shuttle to the location, which is actually ancient native New Zealand forest. It was honestly like stepping into a completely different world. As you may have seen from previous posts we have been to various forest areas and walks, however this was just on a different level. During our tour have seen so many amazing birds during the tour we have never seen and the guides knew pretty much everything about them!
The tour itself is roughly three hours long and guides you through 1.2km of ziplines, swingbridges and treetop platforms, which are up to 22m high! The guides were absolutely amazing. They were so happy, passionate and enthusiastic people and it were literary three hours of giggles and laughter!
Also, a great part of the tour fare is actually supporting a massive conservation. You will learn all about the “Canopy Conservation Trust” and what they do to protect the native forest plants and the birds within it, which was really interesting and eye opening. It’s so easy to make a difference in this world and we were incredibly impressed with the work and their achievements up to this point.
“Rotorua Canopy tours” has been awarded as the number one outdoor activity in New Zealand, if this is not saying something I don’t know! Highly highly recommend this activity, it's such a great laugh and you learn a lot while meeting new people and feeling like a monkey flying through the forest! A well deserved Kiwi Award!
