thinking about welcome home and how it explores memories. i can't shake the feeling that something awful must have happened with the neighbors during the show's original run, and for some reason the entire thing got erased from the memories of everyone who used to watch it.
the show was clearly popular, so how come no one remembers it? except, of course, wally. but even his memories are messed up. and he wants so much to remember, and for other people to remember it as well.
looking at some guestbook doodle answers, the topic of childhood memories comes up a few times. to one of them, a guest named sally, wally draws stars and asks "sally, is that you?"
the spirals also come up twice when other guests mentioned the same thing -- one time with wally telling them to "scratch harder" after they say the memories had been an unreachable itch in the back of their mind. and when someone says they loved barnaby as a kid, wally says "love him. you remember," like he's relieved someone still has those memories.
and yet, when someone asks about his favorite memory with each of his friends, wally answers by scratching in red. all we get from the file name is "no memory."
this and the ruined drawing of julie's siblings covered in ink shown in the restoration page makes me think that the one who wants the project to be restored and for people to recover their memories of the show is none other than wally himself. however, he's doing everything behind home's back.
because home was the one to erase everyone's memories.
and with that in mind, this page starts making a little more sense.
we need to stay quiet, otherwise home will know what we're doing.
