places a single flower in his hair 'see, now you're pretty too'
such a small act was deemed odd by him . in which it was foreign, kindness and simple gestures were peculiar in every sense, a lack of affection which he grew to be used to seemed to rear its ugly head when she did something so … small . he doesn’t understand it very well, finding it beyond just a little confusing, and perhaps his own perception of his self didn’t help with this . was he really pretty like this ??
it took longer than it normally would’ve for him to respond, reaching up to touch the flower, face contorted in an indescribable expression — was that some sort of fear in his eyes mixing in with his bewilderment, bringing forward a display of all that he’d experienced at such a young age ?? his mind had wandered . to what days could he recall aside from those days of pain, eachone seeming like a fight for survival that would never be safe . it was a routine with no one he could rely upon for comfort — not even his parents, for they never seemed to be there . “did they ever really care?” he briefly found himself questioning, but the occurrence of this thought frequent enough to matter . even if they’d wanted to, the passage of time differed greatly between them, it being in his own hands to escape the hell they unknowingly put him through . it was a time filled with devastating loneliness .
movements stopped abruptly, just short of the flower, hand returning to his lap . mara had returned to the present — yes, that’s right … this wasn’t the place in which he’d despised, nor was he really alone anymore . his smile came back wider than ever, a look like he could cry at any given moment coming with it . it’d set in again, at this moment, that he had a family to be with and he wouldn’t lose them again, and that joy shows in how he laughed . he’d finally formulated a reply .
‘ what, y’sayin’ i’m not pretty already ?? that’s mean, mahuri !! ’
