Seriously!? Keith was lecturing him about this? Pot meet kettle! Time Wizard always got the crowd on the edge of their seats. Besides, it wasn’t like Jounouchi was entirely going to rely on it to save his backside. He had other measures in place to bounce back from the monster’s effect if it wiped his field instead of his opponent’s.

“They love seein’ me play that card. Besides, outta all the times I’ve used chance cards I’ve only gotten a negative effect once!”

Once legitimately, anyway. The Noah thing didn’t count since the business geezer had been cheating.

“That’s pretty good odds if I say so myself. It’s goin’ in the deck.”

An ornate and quite old-looking dagger is taken out of his inner jacket pocket. Seth then also fished out a coin too. He tosses the latter up in the air far above his head before throwing the knife up to strike the coin, making a loud ring before he caught the knife again with a flourish on its way back down.

“Top that.”

Not that Seth thought this guy could, but hey, he would always at least give people a chance.

What the heck, this door worked just fine on the way in! He never should have agreed to come here!

Sure, all that had happened so far was some lights flickering and some wood creaking, but that was enough for Jounouchi to convince him that this place was haunted!

And now he was slightly panicking--not that he’d ever admit it.

“C’mon help me, I’m gonna knock this door off the hinges if I have to! Let’s put our backs into it!”

No, he absolutely wasn’t overreacting. He was just utterly done with this situation and was going to nope right outta here. He’d much rather try and kick down a door than punch a ghost!

“Hope’s easier when it’s only myself at risk though, ya’know?”

With a scratch of his hair, Jounouchi’s mind kept drifting back to his sister.

“I just worry, get me? The future of myself is finally takin’ form but for her she’s still got a lot to figure out. I don’t wanna shield her from life or anythin’ but...”

Man, being a pseudo-parent was hard! Which basically what he was, their parents were of little help.

“In this world you can get stuck in a lotta ruts. Just by being unlucky. And Shizuka deserves better than that. I just want it to be easy for her.”

But... he supposed he could only hope for that. And if it didn’t happen, try the best to fix things after and provide what support he could.

One last chance. He wanted to give his king one last chance to change the river of fate. He had disagreed with how his pharaoh had decided to deal with the thief that had attacked them. Yet Seth let his protests die out of respect for the throne. But now Mahad was dead. Not that he had been much of a fan of the fellow priest but that was besides the point. Their approach to dealing with this criminal should have been more cutthroat and aggressive. Letting the Thief King come to them was a mistake. He’d pick them off one by one until Egypt was in the hands of a grave robber.

“My lord,” he said knocking on the door outside the room he’d last heard the king had gone.

“Do you have a moment? I wish to speak to you about the current... situation.”

Aknadin’s words echoed in his ears. He needed to do what was best for the nation. Whatever that took.

“Well--”

No. No Hermit didn’t. The shine had been in these tatters when they had gotten here too. Though it was quite the sad sight, before it was a lovely area.

“I do not. Perhaps human adolescents? They sometimes get... unruly. Or maybe even human adults who have had too much--what is that again? The drink that tastes bad but makes them act peculiarly. Perhaps it was that.”

Though there was nothing to gain here. Even in an odd state of mind, Hermit found it weird that if whoever did this was a human, would come to a place that had nothing finite to gain to trash it.

“Or, what is the likelihood it was something more sinister?”

Ah. Well, it appeared Hermit wasn’t mistaken. They thought that odd noise coming from Serafina had been her stomach, but they did not want to assume. But it turned out they were right, going by the goddess’s proposition to take food home from someplace.

“I do not require sustenance myself to survive, but there are several things I do enjoy to consume nonetheless.”

Often when Riley got hungry Hermit would just get one or two things they’d liked and would sit and talk during the majority of the meal.

“I do not mind joining you. However, I do not know your preferences, so I will defer to your judgement for a location.”

And perhaps if they had good tea, Hermit could get some for Riley as well.

“Of course,” Hermit said with a nod, not that it would help get the point across.

At the very least this was good progress so far. Plenty of people Hermit had spoken to after looking in their direction would understandably experience discomfort and make haste to leave without a word. And while the person in front of them now was also very likely to be experiencing this, the conversation luckily still carried on.

“Her name is Riley. We did not, I rushed onto the one that brought me here as to not be late for an appointment.”

Appointment with well... mysterious directions that just appeared and led to someone Hermit believed they needed to help, anyway. Hopefully it wasn’t a nearly dying human this time--

“The doors closed before I could find her in the crowd again, I do not know if she even saw which train I got on. She knows we were on a time limit, so I believe it is unlikely she would stay in the same place. She at least knew the cardinal direction we were heading, do you think a foreigner would be able to deduce that this was the next closest stop?”

Sure, there were maps in the stations, but they were... tangled.
