Of course there's a bloody flock of crows over me while I'm trying to study. I'm scared to death of crows. (I just realized a "bloody flock of crows" is a bloody murder)
Encounters at College (So Far)
I'm going to add to this post every time something new and weird happens.
First day of school: Some guy approaches me as I eat lunch on the only occupied bench within 100 yards. Introduces himself, then sits down despite me saying my ride is picking me up soon. Proceeds to make small talk for the next 5 minutes, then says, "I'd like you to be my honorary sister," and lurches forward to hug me. Um, no.
Week 4: Returning to my study spot in the library, having popped out to use the restroom. Some guy rolls his seat across the aisle I'm walking through and blocks my path, staring at me. "Actually, I just have - I need to - *incoherent speech* *reaches out to stroke the sleeve of my really fluffy pink sweater* Holy COW, that's soft. Thanks. *rolls back to his table*"
Also week 4: Classmate in front of me argues with the professor in Psychology class when she says that genetics aren't the only influencing factor in alcoholism. Other classmate pipes up and says, "You can overcome genetics with a strong will." First person spits, "ALL alcoholics are strong." Professor: *raises eyebrows* First classmate: "I've been sober for 2 years, are you calling me weak?" Second classmate: "You're a recovering alcoholic. People who are still in alcoholism aren't strong enough to overcome it with their willpower." Professor: "And not everyone can overcome it with their willpower." (later) Professor: "Loneliness and depression has been scientifically linked to alcoholism." First classmate: "*sarcastically* Oh, really? You just now realized that? *broods for rest of class*"
Well, it's official: screwing with my sleep schedule turns me into a ball of anxiety who can't handle anything. Early bedtime for me tonight.
Graduation Checklist
I'm doing great in my college classes, but I need to get my butt in gear so I can finish high school by May. There's a lot to be done, and I keep putting it all off in favor of coursework. So for accountability, here's a first draft of my checklist: -Register and study for ACT & SAT retake (already bought my materials; pick a date that isn't in March or February) -75 hours community service a) Habitat for Humanity sign-up b) Re-engage w/ Student Ambassadors moderating/Peer Tutoring c) Speak to MaryKay about more physical therapy volunteering d) Contact animal shelter and local theater -Write down deadlines for scholarship and college application(s), financial aid(?) -Follow up with colleges (narrowed to 2 choices) about music programs/whether to transfer before or after completing AA -Choose classes for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semester (Marine Bio/Astronomy, Speech, what else? Transfer before electives?) -Attack extracurriculars with a vengeance -Ask dad for check for mom for half of my textbooks
Starting to figure out that sleeping for 7-8 hours leaves me agitated and extremely anxious, whereas 10 hours puts me in a good mood all day and my misophonia is manageable. I have to get really strict about this, apparently.
Just finished busting up half a dozen wooden pallets with my sister, armed with naught but a sledgehammer and crowbar. That was interesting. Bonfire tonight, yo.
