The glee Rowan takes in hurting others. Stella isn’t a nice, delicate flower by any means, but there’s something about the way Rowan treats others that Stella doesn’t always like. Something about going out of her way to cause harm. More often than Stella, isn’t really nice. She’s sarcastic and rude and tactless but she is an optimist. And she does try to hold most people --  or at least most humans. And Rowan does just the opposite. Basically, anyone who treats any human like trash at any point is on Stella’s Shit List. Also she was mean to Abel, so.

The power that Rowan has. I know I’ve said it somewhere before, but the male demons don’t really do anything for Stella. They’re fun to look at and toss a few barbs back and forth with, sure. But when it comes to getting her to join up with the Dark Side, they have little to offer her. Old Dudes in power doesn’t really thrill Stella since it’s been the status quo for, you know, ever. So the female demons are really the ones with an advantage and Rowan’s power and ability are definitely things that Stella admires and maybe even covets.

She wore her power delicately which meant more to Stella. Meant there was a confidence, a comfort, in her own ability and status. She didn’t have to wield it prominently, wave it around. There were no big shows or performances. Just Rowan, standing before her with the red hair tumbling down her back.Lips curved into a devastating smile and her eyes set on Stella.

Set on Stella like she was the only thing in the world, the most interesting thing in the room.

The offer hung heavy between them, filling the air and atmosphere so that Stella breathed it into her lungs with every inhale.

The men were all talk and blood. Brute force, lackadaisical ad hominem attacks, twisting offers of wine and bodies but with scorn braided into every move. Female demons, Stella had found, were her weakness. The men were just that: men. Fun to interact with because, well. But not really substantial in their offers.

Rowan, though. Rowan looking at her like she actually wanted to offer her something. Like she actually could. All Stella would have to do was join up and all her dreams would come true.

She opened her mouth.
