âWell if it isnât Royce, I brought you some flowers.â Gin held up a bright yellow bouquet for her exâs new boyfriend. âAre you doing alright?â

Donât Bring me Down | Ratt
Matt was tired of this fight. He missed his best friend, and more importantly, he missed his brother. It had been weeks since theyâd been in the same room together without Royce wanting to choke him out, and it hurt. He loved his bro.Â
And then there were the nightmares, so he had to stay in California with his moms, and they were telling him to apologize. Trust in me when I say Matt wanted to apologize. He just didnât know how. With their past fights, it had been so easy. A quick apology, a punch to the arm, a hug, and they were buds again. But this time...Matt fucked up way too bad for that. He needed to do something big, to show Royce he was sorry and prove that he did care for him.Â
It wasnât until he saw his two moms dancing to the song that Matt had the perfect plan. It was easy to get the tools he needed-- the karaoke machine with the right backing track and a cheesy tux. He got a bouquet of flowers from the flower shop in San Francisco that his moms went to (the Burrowsâ had been shopping at Sapphlower since they fell in love 40 years ago). The scatterbrained woman at the counter gave him a wink as she handed him the bouquet of beautiful red flowers.Â
Matthew didnât realize how late it was in New York until he apparated onto the dark street that Elijah lived on. He frowned, knowing that Royce wouldnât be able to see him with such drab lighting.
âLumos Maxima.â He said before sending the glowing orb up above him. And then he switched on the karaoke machine. Matt cleared his throat. âRoyce,â He shouted into the microphone, using his wand to amplify the machine. âIâm sorry about what I did. I should have been a better bro and I wasnât. I let you down, and worst of all I didnât have your back. I love you, baby. And if itâs quite alright...â
Matt started the music, and the sound of trumpets filled the night air. âYouâre just too good to be true, canât take my eyes off of you. You feel like heaven to touch, I want to hold you so much...â Matt sang into the microphone when it was time. He would be lying if he said he hadnât rehearsed this entire thing. He swayed along to the music as he sang, pointing to Royce as he sang, âCanât take my eyes off of you.â
As the music picked up, Matt began to march in circles. He stopped dead in his tracks as he belted, âI Love you baby, and if itâs quite alright I need you, baby, to warm the lonely nights, I love you baby, trust in me when I say...
âOh pretty baby, donât bring me down I pray, Oh pretty baby, now that I've found you stay, and let me love you, baby, let me love you.â He sang as his hand rose to point to the now open window that Royce was looking out of.Â
Matt finished the song with a flourish, not caring that he mustâve woken up the entire neighborhood. âSo, whatâll it be Royce? Will you let me love you?â

âCarter said we need to work this together.â Matt put the file down on Royceâs desk, his arms crossing as soon as he did so. âNo questions allowed, sheâs in one of her moods. Itâs an easy case so you wonât have to deal with me for long.â Matt didnât meet Royceâs eyes, partly out of pettiness, but also to hide the dark circles under his eyes. Heâd been sleeping in Santa Barbara, which meant he had to wake up three hours earlier than he usually would.Â

Matt woke up early that day, and by the time he barged into Royceâs room, heâd already called both of them off of work. Heâd had another bad dream, one that shook him to his core and kept him awake for the rest of the night. âRoyce, wake up. Weâre going to Santa Barbara.â
Matt had a backpack over his shoulder, and despite the chill in New York City, he was wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top. Over one shoulder, he held a backpack containing beach gear for both him and Royce. He was not about to wait for Royce to pack. âIâm teaching you how to surf.â

âWilkinson, what are you doing? You look like an idiot.â
@roycewilkinson
âRoyce, I need you to know that Iâm a little warm, so Iâm gonna be taking off my sweater. This is not an invitation for the physical act of love.â
