Walking The Ceiling : Oil on Canvas From a series of works in which I'm drawn to explore the endless possibilities which can be exploited within a seemingly simple visual premise: figures suspended in space, their location an unknown. These figures are poised somewhere between stasis and movement, motionless yet inexorably pulled by an unseen force. This is a painting of the interior of my studio, with my favourite 'model' Dorothy walking on its ceiling. It seems to be night, and no-one else is present. Some of the work I've done in the building seems to coexist as a temporal, alternate world within that of the Bingo. I like to imagine that impossible things are going on even when I'm not there.

Unknown Woman : Oil on Linen “The quiet mystery of a head which will never turn, intimate yet remote, the face forever unseen, is a subject I have found myself drawn to investigate repeatedly. My figures may seem frozen in a place of stasis and reflection, in the eye of the storm, attempting to reconfigure themselves & perhaps on the cusp of transformation, but they are always on the verge of some private evolution”.

Nest I, Roxana Halls

The quiet mystery of a head which will never turn, intimate yet remote, the face forever unseen, is a subject I have found myself drawn to investigate repeatedly. My figures may seem frozen in a place of stasis and reflection, in the eye of the storm, attempting to reconfigure themselves & perhaps on the cusp of transformation, but they are always on the verge of some private evolution. Totemic in their apparent simplicity, my protagonists seemingly poised in a state of liminality, my aim is for these images to engender a sense of the uncanny and are charged with possibility. Enticing yet at times perhaps troubling, my Unknown Women insist that the viewer will always be left in a state of unknowing.
