Just a theory for Renegade Nell
I should have written this a lot sooner, but here's a thought on the ramifications of one sentence in Renegade Nell. Nell's father, when telling her she can stay if she works, says that she can wear Elizabeth's stuff. It's implied that she was his wife. Now he doesn't say that Nell can wear her mother's stuff, but Elizabeth's. That's a strange way to put it....unless she wasn't Nell's mother. I've been told that the number one killer of women before the 20th century was childbirth. Is it possible that Nell's mother died, her father remarried to this Elizabeth, and that she died in childbirth? That would also indicate that Georgie, and possible Roxie, is Nell's half-sister.
