The 375th Anniversary of Parliament went off without a hitch. A little birdie told me that a particular BLP Party member who always seems to have a grievance with Mia Mottley attended and bragged about how proud she was to have received an invitation....some people are wondering if there is not a way to kick her out of the beehive since she seems to be playing on both sides of the fence.
TRANSPORT LAY-OFFS - As if the public transportation via The Transport Board could not get any worst 250 people have been earmarked to get their walking papers. Meanwhile the Barbados Workers Union is threatening to "raise their sword" if the workers were sent home. What sword? Where is this sword at? Give me a bloody break. If the Barbados Workers Union had any balls, power, leverage, swords, ctlasses, acid, matches, wood, fire, dynamite, bombs or anything that would have shown their MIGHTY STRENGTH the public would been mobilised, the streets would have been painted BLACK with "blue colour" workers rallying their support for those now unemployed. The unions are blowing hot air and it is clear that they have "SOLD OUT" the people of the country to the worst possible bidder. Waiting until the ink has dried on the people then screaming "ya can't do that" makes a mockery of the social activists who fought for the rights of the people in this country. But alas, what do I know?
UP TO PRIME MINISTER - Averting Strike action at the Transport Board is now in Prime Minister Freundel Stuarts Hands according to Sir Roy Trotman. Meanwhile the Transport Board took out a FULL PAGE ADD informing their members of staff and the public about the layoffs. So over to Freundel - I consider this a master stroke by the Barbados Workers Union - everytime they don't want to bit the hand that feeds them they lay the decisions at teh Prime Ministers feet as though at this point in time Freundel would open his mouth. If this very same Prime Minister was quoted stating that the press needs to stop publicizing the number of people going home do you really think he gives a damn of the BWU threatens to strike? Freundel knows the BWU won't strike! I know the BWU won't strike. The private sector knows that the BWU won't strike! The only people who want to believe that the BWU would strike are the retrenched workers who are holding out hope for a miracle.....well they better open their eyes there is not a man on this earth right now that could part the dead sea!
BARBADOS TRANSPORT BOARD VS UCAL - According to Minister of Transport & Works Michael Lashley, the relationship bet of ween the board and the United Commercial Autoworks Limited has to be re-examined. Lashley stated that "we provide an operations centre for UCAL. We supply them with parts. UCAL doesn't have to buy parts. All they have to do is repart the buses and they are guaranteed 30% of the repair of the buses." Board generates $50 Millionin revenue but the expenditure is over $50 Million. UCAL needs to be Modernised. Maintenance costs is one of the major headaches at Transport Board. The older the bus gets, the more it costs to maintain. So inquiring minds are wondering who would get the contract if Transport Board does not renew its agreement with UCAL.
ESTWICK PROPOSALS - Denis Kellman said yesterday that the Cabinet has listened to MP David Estwick and will decide what course of action to take. The waiting game continues.
FISH DIVIDE - An official of the UNited Nation's Food and Agricultur Organisation says that Government may have to consider limiting the number of new fishermen to protect stocks of migratory fish; however, MP Denis Kellman disagrees. Let's see what happens when we really don't have any fish in our waters.
WEAK CYBER LAWS - Barbados seems to be int he stone-age where cyber laws are concerned and the CTO of Caribbean Cyber Security Centre is calling on Government to recognize the weaknesses in many laws because they fail to take into account technological developments over the years.
GREATEST CARNIVAL IN THE WORLD - Hats of to the organisers of Trinidad & Tobago Carnival undisputedly the best planned & executed Carnival. I was not in Trinidad but I was able to watch every single event LIVE and FREE of cost. The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation & the NCF should take note. Celebrity Hosts, Carnival Dancers on the planes, Phenomenal set & lighting designs. The shows flowed smoothly with no apparent glitches . It was amazing how the TV hosts and MC were in sync. They showed experience in their areas of profession while educating viewers about the history & culture of TNT.
