So many feels. I'm aRoyal Marines commando as a corporal I've been around the world on tours afghan Somalia etc I always thought that was my way of doing something to help people more impoverished and less fortunate or oppressed. After reading this blog and crying all 17 stone of my green beret commando self and showing all the other marines in my block your blog we've all decided to do more and more when we're not on ops to help everyone we can :) thank you so much!
Wow Christopher, I applaud you and all other marines in your block! It makes me smile to picture you all reading and crying over this blog - you must all be such wonderful guys!
Your idea of helping people less fortunate as a Royal Marines commando is very admirable, and I am positive you will do many more great things - both on and off duty! Can’t wait to feature you (again) on this blog some day! :-)
An internal dialogue for two strangers on a train.
I’ve just overheard two men talking on a train about the comparisons between Sgt Al Blackman and Lee Clegg from back in the early 90’s. May I start by saying that Lee Clegg’s incident in Northern Ireland is so much different than this one. One of the gentlemen even mentioned that it didn’t really matter in the recent case because he was ‘a Muslim’. This infuriates me. The very idea that some lives mean less than others because of the colour of their skin or the foundations of their beliefs, is one of the sickening problems in the World. However let us get that out of the way first; this was not an attack fuelled by racial hatred or bigotry. This was the culminating point of a ‘battle between two forces at War’.
I don’t believe that any one person is above the law or has the power to be judge, jury or executioner. However I know War. I’ve seen men at their worst, their most violent…and I’ve seen men like Sgt Blackman run towards them. I’ve seen grown men refer back to their childhood insecurities and cry for loved ones. These nightmarish daily occurrences are experienced and then relived in the moments between moments for years to come. You may not agree with their methods, but these men are guided by a morality that supersedes any rule book being referred to by those not man enough to fight in the Wars they pick. In times of mortal danger or when a man is faced with a fighter that tried to kill them just moments before, then unfortunately, these men react instinctively and with their warrior side instead of their heads.
The aforementioned rule books are not cast aside, but are instead held in the same regard as the opposing force holds them. Actions based on an archaic hatred towards any particular Religion or ethnicity are exempt, because you see, the danger with sticking to those rule books is that they offer the illusion that leading a moral life in Battle is a simple undertaking, and that the World exists in black & white. The tough decisions as well as the true horror and actions of War exist in the grey areas. Taking our innocence and sometimes our sanity as payment, because even though the scars you see are the ones that show you we survived; the scars you can’t see are the ones that make us wish we hadn’t.

Aye, so the old Royal Marine's Commando advert is still going and last night it was on at the cinema when I went to see Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
It was my husband that pointed the similarity between Brian's description of painting in "Spaced" (video on myspace) and then I laughed for about five minutes.
Lets not forget the 5 Royal Marine Commandos who still face a murder charge for allowing a scumbag terrorist Taliban fighter to die without giving the fucker medical help!! The Royal getting it in the neck doing press ups in the mud is Georgie Sparks. RIP Georgie. Killed by the Taliban. Drop all charges against our commandos NOW!!!
