Day 43: back in the Port of Melbourne. It was time to discover a bit more about this cosmopolitan city and second largest in Australia. I did a bit of exploring around the city. There’s great street art and cultural events, and Federation square is a good place to start, a civic centre and cultural precinct with shops, cafés, bars, restaurants as well as cultural facilities. It is opposite Flinders street Railway Station and is the perfect place if you are meeting someone, a bit like Picaddilly Circus in London. China town is quite a special place in the city, especially around Chinese New Year. Finally I also had time to do some shopping. There are excellent shopping areas around Collin Street, but by far my favourite were the heritage shopping arcades, the Block Arcade and the Royal Arcade, one of Melbourne most richly decorated interiors where you can also find the famous Hopetoun Tea Rooms with their stunning cake displays. Really enjoyed Melbourne for the second time, as I went with the flow, discovering a bit more of the city, and that’s probably the best way to do it.
