Flashback #wednESday to my old 2011 #Epiphone 50th Anniversary Casino. I acquired this one from @kevinkanemusic of @thegrapesofwrath and @thenorthernpikes! . It was a lovely #guitar, one of 1961 made, with the sexy #RoyalTan finish and metal ,"bikini" headstock plate. I only sold it because needed money to fund vintage stuff. Yesterday's gear adventure yielded this mint 1966 Epiphone Riviera in Royal Tan, complete with the hangtag and case to boot. I'd seen this finish on early Casinos, but it's the first time I've ever seen it on a Riviera. It's completely unfaded with virtually no aging of the clear coat. Here’s another fun one from the archives. It’s a 2011 #Epiphone 50th Anniversary #Casino in #RoyalTan finish. Photo taken on January 22, 2012, just over 7 years ago. I was so excited to get this #guitar because it had been owned by one of my musical heroes @kevinkanemusic of @thegrapesofwrath. Check out the cool metal “bikini” #Epi logo plate on the headstock. It was super light too being fully hollow (a Casino is basically identical to a #Gibson #ES330 in all but cosmetics). The Anniversary model also came with a very cool retro hardshell case and case candy. For the money at the time ($899 CAD brand new if I remember correctly) it was a great value. I ended up selling it as I started needing money for #vintageguitar purchases, but if I had my way (and/or I wasn’t so poor!) Ah, Royal Tan! One of the most stately finishes Gibson/Epiphone ever conjured up. This early '61 Epi Casino is an absolute gem, and it's nice to play one with a full 1 11/16" nut, since Gibson started making the nuts on these more slender as early as '63 (as opposed to early '65 for the corresponding Gibson model, the ES-330).
