         THE NIGHT WAS YOUNG,    and yet it was her favorite time of the night. in a way that often found her sitting alone, staring out over the scenery. letting her mind just wander. she wasn't thinking of anything important, not when her adhd mind drifted from one thing to another, rather frequently. (    but she was used to that in reality!    )  but despite her hectic mind, she allows the silence to settle over her. calming her, and simply enjoying it. even as she hears the footsteps near. she still feels relaxed.    as hazel hues drift over with a smile, being as polite as she knew how. which wasn't much.

          ❛   no its fine. honestly.   ❜   the words delivered with a softness that related to how calm she was. here, she didn't feel the intense war she suffered daily. the way she had to cage her inner demons.     (   literally!   )    biting her lip momentarily, she looks at the other before looking back at the scenery.     ❛   you look like you could use the quiet as much as me.   ❜

“I was not aware that the woods worked on VEGAS rules.” The words are said calmly, but he can’t quite control the way his heart has picked up, or the way the side of his torso itches - as if it is remembering the teeth digging in, claws scraping up his shoulders, pure agony and HELL. The only woods he can find himself relaxing in is the one on Fairhaven Island; and that has less to do with the woods itself and more to do with the coven that protects it. “In my experience, very little good happens in the woods.”

           the dark woods are a dangerous place for people to take off alone into. a place that should better be avoided. what bad things can happen in this territory? what horror stories?

          not that it would be katherine's concern. her angelic appearance is deceiving; she's the one people should be scared of. a lesson this poor human hiker has learned too late although he's still - mercifully - alive. kind of.

          the brunette vampire licked over her tainted lips before she turned around at the sound of rustling leaves. did this person have a companion? hopefully not.

“Yeah, I was a bit COLD and thought this’d fix that problem.” While that does sound like something he would realistically do, it was however, a lie. Not because he wanted to hide the truth from her ( if he wanted to do that he’d put in a bit more effort to disguise all the tell tale signs of lying so her keen werewolf senses wouldn’t pick up on it ) but because he was a compulsive liar who lied for fun. But there’s a moment when he just has to STARE at her in silence, expression almost blank, as the fire continues to burn through his jacket and give him third degree burns. Damn, she sounds CONCERNED. Weird.

“Okay.” he says before immediately dropping to the ground. “You might want to be quick about it before I set the floor on fire though. Unless you’re down to commit insurance fraud today, of course! Don’t let me get in the way of that.”

"They could, and the answer would be that I'm an early riser." While he does often pull all-nighters while having gotten lost in his art, that's not the case this time. No, this time he has just decided to get out of bed early, before the sun has even risen yet.

"Loud." He repeats thoughtfully. He wishes he could tell her that he did know, that he understood completely, and could even help, but for him it was too quiet. Ghosts walked the halls when it was quiet. "I know it's not so simple, but if you can get some rest you should. Sleep deprivation could make it feel worse." But it's not an easy thing to get rest when you can't get rest.

"I will hold you to that. Twenty-four hours, no less." He said, lip pulling up in a half smile. "Don't worry, you didn't wake me. Nor anyone else - and don't you dare go camp out in Bear Valley." If it's loud here, he can't imagine what Bear Valley would be like. He's quiet for a moment. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

“I mean, that’s generally the way I do things. Pop in, cause some ✨ chaos ✨ and then vanish in the night - or day - and leave people questioning what just happened, and who was that dashing but peculiar man?”

“I think I fucked up.” The confession is out of his mouth before he can even think about it for even half a second. He doesn’t just think it, he knows it. It’s hard not to know it when it’s all that he can hear in his head, telling him how he’s fucked up, he’s fucked everyone over, this is all his fault. For once, he fully agrees with them.

Despite knowing this, he wasn’t quite meaning to admit it. He has an image to maintain here! Fuck, fuck, fuck. He’s not sure when he moved from sitting to intently pacing, but he was pacing. Back and forth, like a caged animal ( a caged wolf; except the cage was invisible and he didn’t know where the boundaries were; just that there were boundaries; and his enemy was also invisible and could come from any direction. )

He stopped pacing and looked at Roz. “I shouldn’t be here,” he said, shaking his head. She could become a target because of him and fuck it, he actually cares about her. He wasn’t supposed to let that happen! He should say something else, maybe try to explain himself; but explaining never really was his thing. 

Instead, he opened a portal behind him and stepped back through it.
