Rozalion was a very unhappy man. A nobleman raised on a belief that his status defines who he should be: cold, stoic, smart and most importantly, someone who lives up to what is expected of a nobleman of the Volan lineage.
And by how he acted you could assume it did. Rozalion was nothing but cruel and emotionless to anyone who had the displeasure of meeting him. Talking to Rozalion was as nice an experience as a third degree burn, it was effectively: 60% insults, 30% "you are wasting my time you vermin" and 10% political bullshit.
Rozalion played his part, acting as if he was above everything, but in reality... he never felt it. He never really believed that he was anybody great, quite the opposite, actually. If he truly was this great nobleman, then why was he so insecure about himself, about how he looks, how he talks, how he fidgets with his hands while he was talking. Why did it always feel like everyone was watching him, waiting for and judging every single mistake he made. The anxiety he felt was unbearable on some days, and it often happend that it ended with Rozalion having a panic attack or a meltdown in private. And then he felt disgusted with himself for having those thoughts and not being who he was supposed to be. Days like those where the ones where Roz was at his cruelest, taking it out on either staff or, in some cases, Lync.
Aside from his parents, there was one person who was at least partially safe from Rozalion's cruel side. It was Keith Fermin. Friends since they were kids, Keith was the only one that Rozalion felt safe to open up around, at least a little. The only person around whom he felt anything that resembled happiness. But even that didn't last forever.
Rozalion despised Bakugan from the moment they showed up. Aside from annoying little adorable and precious kids screaming about them left and right, this child game started to actually mess with the politics. And Lync was into it. And their parents actually had the audacity to support THIS HOBBY?! Worst of all, Keith was interested, too. And because of that, Keith and Roz began to drift apart. Roz decided to "politely" confront Keith about it. Long story short, it led to the two of them... not even speaking anymore.
Rozalion panicked, that was his breaking point. He knew that this time, an apology wouldn't work, he had to actually do something. He decided that he would steal a Bakugan from Professor Clay's lab and start participating in Bakugan battles (in disguise, of course), hoping it would impress Keith somehow. Surprise surprise, the Bakugan he stole spoke.
Meet Prerio! A silly little Ventus Bakugan. Rozalion was of course NOT happy about having an ADHD orb annoying him all the time, but he couldn't exactly get rid of her either. So a little bit about Prerio first: as stated, she is a sweetheart, and may seem naive but she truly believes there is good in everyone. And no matter how uncooperative or cruel Roz was, she kept talking to him. Besides, he did save her from that terrible lab, there had to be some good in him! Roz was unhappy, but, slowly but surely, he started to get used to Prerio, he hadn't really known how it was to have anyone who just always wanted to be around him or talk to him. But Prerio wasn't an idiot, she had a special ability that allowed her to mimic voices (prolly does something in battle idk haven’t thought about it lol) and every time she sensed Roz’s hypocrisy or when Roz said something horrible to her, she mimicked it back and time after time she spotted understanding, guilt and regret in his eyes. And pain, a lot of it. But after months of friendship she also started to see Rozalion smile, and he even chuckled once or twice when she said a terrible pun. Prerio wasn't ever scared to talk to Roz about the hurt and loss she'd experienced, and after a while Roz also started to open up. And one day Prerio asked Roz for a big favor.
Back when she had freshly been kidnaped by the Vestals and brought to the lab, she was with her friend. She knew that friend wasn't there anymore. She wouldn't hear her or see her, but maybe Roz could find some records, or papers or any hint to where Prerio’s friend could be? Rozalion agreed. But when he was in the lab, an accident happened, one of the Death Bombs fell on the floor and started sucking Roz in. Roz called for help, and Keith showed up, but he didn’t help Roz, he just grabbed Prerio and walked away, leaving Rozalion to face his doom.
But Roz didn't die (I will skip the Edges of the Universe lore for now). Basically, he somehow managed to escape the Edges. Not long after Dan and Marucho left for New Vestroia, Runo and Julie found Rozalion in a harsh condition and, most importantly, with no memory of who he was and where he came from. All he had were weird nightmares. Rozalion after losing his memory is like a new person. Sweet, talkative and a little bit childish. He is the inner child that was buried deep inside that insecure shell he'd been forced to live in for years, finally free of the expectations put onto him. Runo and Julie, of course don't know who Roz is, so for now Runo's parents let him stay with them and work in the restaurant. Runo does not approve, Julie APPROVES
