Just then, the front door unlocked and the bell above it rang, signaling an entrance. Nightshade appeared in the kitchen doorway just in the nick of time. “Oh! You’re awake! Good! We were out of milk so I got us some,” she said as she placed the plastic bag on the dining table. “Aaaaaaaand I’ve got - PANCAKE MIX!”
She moved about the kitchen with ease, as if Nick being there was no obstacle whatsoever. She got out her bowls, pan, butter and eggs and started mixing. “You like pancakes right? Oh sorry, didja wanna make coffee? It’s in this cupboard right here!” she pointed out. “I didn’t make any this mornin’ cus I don’t really drink coffee.”

At the sound of the door unlocking, his hand swiftly moved, lingering over the hidden knife he always had on his person. When he saw that it was only Nightshade he relaxed, hand falling freely at his side. "I thought you were still asleep." Now that was somewhat disconcerting, she was actually quiet enough to not wake him as she moved about and left the house.. either that, or he was actually sleeping soundly it completely missed him. Not a great alternative either.
Nick said nothing, only turned to reach at said cupboard, getting the coffeepot and started to make coffee as she had permitted. A faint grin as he did so, it was hard not to let Nightshade's enthusiasm get to him. That, and the fact that he did like pancakes. And now there was nothing to do while he waited for his coffee. The boy watched Nightshade work, seeming completely in her element, and why wouldn't she be? It was her home, after all. She probably cooked often, too. Nick, in the meantime, rolled his shoulder, rubbed at the back of his neck, and finally spoke up, "..need my help?"
