Commemorations and anniversaries were often accompanied by formal ceremonies, important guests, long speeches, and a surrounding aura of solemnity that nations knew quite well. But this anniversary was a different one; a quiet one, one that was often ignored by history books, but it still was a story worth telling. And after more than a centenary, the 30th of January always ended up being what that day originally started: A union between two lonely souls.
Who deep inside themselves wished to spark up a ray of joy in their millennial spirits.
But the rhythm of the world wasn't going to stop for them. It never did. England carried all his duties of the day inside his mind, with the constant reminder that he was going to have the chance to see Japan that day, a turn of the destiny that told him to not waste it. Walking towards the building where the G20 decided to meet again, England's expression seemed a bit troubled, but the unexpected turn of events was that this time, the anglo-saxon nation was going to take his opportunity with ( almost ) no doubt.
The plan was simple yet involved some risk, every step was carefully thought, and when England's green eyes descried the arrival of Japan to the room, serene and composed as ever, he decided it was time to act. Quickly approaching to him, the blond barely noticed that he had abandoned the conversations his siblings were holding with him, little he cared. ❝ Japan-- ❞ Oh, apparently, certain ex-colony overtook him. Completely ignoring England's presence, America had already settled a friendly conversation with the Japanese. But no, even if it was only for that day, England was not going to get discouraged. ❝ Can you give us a minute? I got an important matter to discuss with Japan. ❞ Well-mannered words that did not coincided with England's gesture, since he decided it was a good idea to get America out of his way while hitting him repeatedly with his elbow. ❝ Just a second! ❞ He insisted, as a reply to America's loud protest. ❝ Please meet me the garden of the building after the reunion is over. I'll be waiting for you. ❞
Those words were definitely going to wake up America's curiosity.
After the slow movements of the hours, the reunion was finally over. With no further explanations, England rushed to the place ( accorded by him ) where he was going to meet Japan. The weather probably didn't favoured them: the winter was hostile, but when Japan showed up, England felt as if the cold accrued in his cheeks slowly vanished -- And despite the crudeness of winter, that day the blond had decided to give his friend a piece of spring.
❝ I called you because I got something for you-- But you need to close your eyes. ❞ A peculiar petition, yes, but well intended. After making sure that Japan was covering his sight completely, England proceeded to make a small gesture with his hand, as if he was calling someone. In a blink, a couple of fairies followed by Flying Mint Bunny appeared out of nowhere and carrying a big bouquet of flowers, with their mission finished, they flew away to some other corner, waiting to be the invisible witnesses of what was going to happen in some seconds more. ❝ You can open them now. ❞
The bouquet included flowers that England chose by the old standard of flower language -- His own secret language that at that moment would allow him to say things he wouldn't find the courage to put in words. It had some red roses. ❝ Happy anniversary. ❞ England offered him the bouquet, and without the flowers in his way, the blush in his cheeks was notorious. ❝ I'm glad that we... That we are close again. I'm very grateful for that, and for having the chance to be with you again-- ❞
The 30th day of the first month probably meant something completely different for some of the nations that participated in that reunion. Or maybe it did not meant something at all.
It probably held no major importance to the current generation under their wing.
Just like their alliance: it was small and ephemeral -- Almost human.
Perhaps they could give themselves the chance of experiencing that sense of humanity that was always battling to dominate their impulses. England was only starting to understand something that he always knew: the meaning of the warmness covering his cheeks, the subtle joyful feeling in his stomach, the way his whole body replied to one single feeling provoked by one specific person. Inside he felt like a complete, giddy, mess.
Yet it also made him feel as if even if only for one day, one moment, all was right in the world.
