Met a charming law student and got married at 23 and gave birth to a baby girl, Lila, at 24 years old
Dropped out of her master’s program to raise her daughter but eventually decided to go back to school when her daughter grew up a little
Eventually got her master’s and started teaching English at a bougie private school
BUT THEN her hubby gets asked to be deputy secretary of the treasury and so the whole family moves to D.C. and Athena goes back to housewifing
But she’s bored af with that so she starts speech writing for low ranking government officials/writing press releases in her free time
She eventually networks her way into writing press releases for the Department of Education as LOVES it
But at 38 years old, a highly publicized scandal hits her family
Cuz her hubby has an affair with a local news anchor and suddenly she’s in the middle of the limelight trying to protect her 14 year old daughter from the media blitz
But then Athena is like hey maybe I can utilize this press to propel my career
So she does
She starts appearing on cable news and talking at events, writing for some major think tanks
And in 2015, she joins Theresa’s campaign as the head of communications
Theresa wins and Athena is offered the job of press secretary
She has a reputation for being the WH’s eye candy to distract from the real issues
But she likes to manipulate that to her favor
In fact, she’s always spinning stories to fit her agenda

But in truth she has a lot of loneliness and trust issues
Her husband’s betrayal really messed with her confidence and she often doubts if she was really the best mom she could have been when the whole scandal happen
Especially because she decided to really push her career at that point instead of focusing on her daughter
She’s absolutely player but also not totally ruthless. She demanding of herself and others but there’s a part of her that does care.

HER DAUGHTER?? She’s 23 and first year law student who’s Athena’s desperately tried to keep away from politics but ultimately failed. They’re very close and it’ll be a whole lot of fun to see where she’d end up (maybe a supreme court intern or clerk? or maybe she’ll find herself at the white house too!)
A FLING. Athena hasn’t been romantically involved for AGES but everyone can use a flame to spice things up. Maybe it turns into something more? Fun fun.

THE PROTEGEE. Athena is difficult to impress but this person has managed to pique her interest and now she’s deadset on imparting her wisdom towards them? It takes a lot to keep up with Athena and she’s quite demanding but ultimately its a rewarding relationship. Whether she admits it or not, this person makes her life less lonely and are a bit of a second child to Athena who is the overprotective mom boss at it’s finest. Who knows? Perhaps there are things Athena can learn from them as well?
