i want to say thank u,,, bc this ask is the reason i remembered that i literally already had this scene 90% written out LMAO. this was just collecting dust in my gdocs, untouched for 5 months, just 2 sentences away from being done. i can't believe i never posted this omg
it's rather short, but pretty sweet! i personally think it's fitting, especially in the context of nali's journey with fatherhood in this au that i have thought way too much about (if only u could see me and blayze's messages about this au. and also the pinterest board. we have so so so SO many thoughts)
anyway here you go!! enjoy!!

Rosé turns the engine off with a click of a button before looking at his rearview mirror to greet a dazed Rowan with a smile, droopy hazel eyes and a faint hint of a sleep-induced frown greeting him back. He knows the poor kid is probably exhausted from the three hour flight back to New York, but to pass by the skating rink when they headed back home from the airport just made the most sense. Plus, he knows Denali would love not having to take the subway home after a shift at the rink.
“We’ll just pick up Uncle Nali and you can take a nap at home, okay?” Rosé assures her, stepping out of the driver’s seat and opening the passenger door for Rowan to crawl out of. He holds it open for a few more moments, glancing at the time on his phone to make sure he wasn’t late, before he realizes that Rowan hasn’t even bothered moving.
He’s about to urge her on, share how excited Denali is to meet her, when he catches sight of his daughter’s eyelids drooping.
Rosé leans against the car door with a defeated sigh. The effect this kid has on him will be his downfall, he already knows it. “Alright- this is the last time I'm carrying you today. You’re getting a little too heavy for me to just carry around you everywhere.”
He leans in to pull the five year old out of the booster seat, bringing her into his arms with a grunt. Rowan immediately latches on to Rosé’s shoulders, nuzzling into it after pushing her messy honey blonde hair away from her face. She shifts in his arms just enough for Rosé to notice, getting comfortable in her father’s hold on her.
Rosé presses a kiss to her hair, a chuckle following his words. “You comfy?”
He feels her nod into his neck, and he can’t help but smile. “Let’s just say hi to Nali, then you can take a good long nap. Sounds good?”
"Yeah." Rowan yawns. “All good.”
Rosé greets the employees he recognizes as he walks into the ice skating rink, feet dragging against the cold tiles before he manages to reach the bleachers where he spots his boyfriend’s things haphazardly thrown against the plastic seats. He sits down in the row closest to the rink, waving Denali down with his free hand once the brunette finishes his conversation with another skating coach.
His partner skates over the second he gets to, warm smile paired with tired dark eyes that greet him and the drowsy child in his arms as he gets closer.
“Well look who’s with you-” Denali leans against the short fence that separates the bleachers from the ice. “Hi Rowan, I’m Denali.”
There’s an awkward silence that lasts a little while, eagerly waiting for the five year old to respond to his introduction.
“Hi Nali.” The little girl replies, peering out of her father’s shoulder to meet the skater’s eyes with a small smile. “Dada likes to talk about you sometimes.”
The blunt confession earns a laugh from the older, Rosé surprised at the candidness he didn’t expect his daughter to possess in her drowsy state. “Sometimes?” The brunette chuckles, sending a knowing gaze his partner’s way before focusing back on the child in Rosé’s arms. Rowan nods.
“Well, I hope he talked about good things.”
“He said you can twirl on ice skates.”
“That I can do.” Denali smiles, pushing against the barrier to slide back to the middle of the rink. He spins in place, even going the extra mile and twirling a little faster to impress the five year old.
He slows to a stop, skating back to where Rosé and his daughter stand at the edge of the ice. Denali catches Rowan sporting a toothy grin. She looks just like Rosé.
“That’s so cool.” The girl's drowsy stare is replaced by eyes filled with wonder. “Can you teach me how to spin too?”
Denali looks at his boyfriend, catching the rush of relief that paints his face. He’s been hearing Rosé stress about introducing his partners to Rowan for weeks, so to have it go as well as it is right now, Denali knows his boyfriend’s shoulders feel a little lighter.
“Of course.” There’s a gentle smile on the brunette’s lips as he meets Rowan’s eyes. Denali opens his mouth to ask Rosé when she’s free to skate when a yawn interrupts him. He catches Rowan mirroring his yawn not long after. Denali makes the decision to schedule her first skating lesson some other time.
He leans against the barrier, finger reaching out to gently tap the little girl's nose. “How about tomorrow? I’m a little too tired to teach you today.”
Rowan takes a second to reply, eyes flickering upward as if deep in thought, then she nods. Her drowsy gaze slowly comes back. “I’m tired too. We should take a nap at the house.”
Rosé chuckles before nodding his head. He meets Denali’s eyes, and all the fear and uncertainty that previously plagued his system is gone. “That sounds like a great idea.”
