(Spoilers if you haven’t watched A:TLA)
Somehow I just realized that Memory and Illusion are having a Zuko/Iroh moment. Zuko was struck down and banished by his (terrible) father, and once he was banished— Zuko did everything in his power to please his father again, anything he could to feel like his son again. Really depressing. :( Iroh was always trying to open Zuko’s eyes, telling him that his father wasn’t worth the trouble of everything, and that Zuko was only destroying himself by trying to earn his honor again— that he would only earn his honor again by earning honor from himself. Illusion and Memory... kinda ties up if you ask me!
(For context: I've only watched Books 1 and 2 of A:TLA...I'll get to Book 3 eventually XD)
Ah yes, Zuko, the most iconic redeemed character in the history of media.
This is a really interesting observation :0 Thank you so much for the ask!
I'd like to add onto your observation: While there are similarities between Zuko and Iroh's dynamic and Memory and Illusion's dynamic, one major difference is the swapped temperament, which I find amusing.
Zuko has a lot of anger issues. Illusion is a very salty boi.
Meanwhile, Iroh is just so chill and mentorly, and I nickname Memory "the chill cousin" because he is relatively calmer than Illusion, even when he's...unhinged in his quest to bring back Void.
Zuko and Iroh have an angry misguided sad child and chill supporter dynamic going on. Meanwhile, Memory and Illusion have a chill misguided sad child and angry supporter dynamic going on.
Thank you again for the ask!
