INTERACTION GUIDE: important headcanons

POWERS/ABILITIES

Although I often simplify his abilities as stating that he 'regenerates at a rapid pace that heals all wounds, even lethal wounds, therefore resurrecting him,' his powers are a bit more complicated than that

Elias's regeneration abilities are time based. He as a person operates on a different timeline than everyone else. His body can subconsciously manipulate time as a means of healing. He heals by winding back time to before he was injured. Despite healing from his wounds, scars remain.

Part of the reason he experiences amnesia upon resurrection is due to the intense levels of pain/trauma that come with dying and healing from his wounds. He feels pain just as easily as an average person. He can feel himself dying and he can feel himself heal. He can feel skin, muscle, bone, etc. mend themselves. Yes it hurts as just as bad as it sounds.

Attempting to kill him while he is mid-healing just makes his body accelerate the healing process. Doesn't matter if you dismember him or burn him to ash, he always comes back. There is no known way to truly kill him. You muse can not kill him.

Similarly, because his body operates on a different timeline/clock than most, he ages at a slower rate.

It is unclear how/why Elias has this healing/resurrection ability and the rest of his biological family didn't. It is assumed it is an ability he is born with, although such an ability is not something that shows up on a test, nor is it something that a mystic could sense or detect. He's a living anomaly.

Despite operating on a different timeline/clock he is meant to live in his current residence and he isn't causing any multiversal chaos.

How much of his memories he forgets depends on how traumatic/painful the death was. Accidentally hitting his head on a rock, for an example would likely make him forget the past week. Dying of bullet or stab wounds would likely make him forget the past month. A month of memory loss is his most common length of memory loss per death. Deaths that involve being beaten or tortured can make him forget multiple months up to a few years.

Elias can't recover most of the memories he forgets. However he does take pictures, write in a journal, send texts to his own number, etc. as a means of recording what he doesn't want to lose track off

PERSONALITY

Elias can be sweet and outgoing. He also can be reserved and quiet. He's more irritable and confused shortly after a recent resurrection. He tends to overall be more optimistic and happy when he hasn't died recently. He tends to become more withdrawn when he's died recently. Overall I'd say he is a complex mix of golden retriever and black cat energy.

Smokes cigs, YOLO since he can't die from lung cancer (or die at all)

ABILITIES: slowed aging, unable to die (heals and resurrects upon death). Each time he dies he loses a LARGE chunk of his memories, memories that he rarely every recovers.

THE HISTORY

Birth - 10 Years

Elias was born in 1862 as Marie Miller to two poor farmers. Elias had an older brother who was older by three years. He does not remember his brother's name. He doesn't remember his family's names. He doesn't remember their faces. He doesn't remember being born in Nebraska. He remembers endless waves of corn. He remembers softly mooing cows. He remembers the creaking sound of wagon wheels. He can feel the painful, ghostly echo of falling off a wagon at age four and down into a nearby river. He remembers dying because his first death is what made him realize he could not die.

An assumed to be dead Marie Miller being found alive by a neighbor was treated like what it was -- a miracle. However when the four year old was returned to his family he screamed. He was rescued by a stranger and given to strangers. He could not remember his parents' names. Doctors said it was a side effect of the trauma of almost dying, totally unaware of the fact that he did die and part of his memories died in that river he fell into.

Elias/Marie would die two more times between the ages of four and 10. The second death would be disease, and the last death would be a kick to the head from a frightened horse. Each time Elias/Marie died, he'd forget more and more until he didn't remember much at all. Upon his third death, a confused Elias/Marie was assumed to be an orphan and adopted by a family he doesn't remember now.

Ages 11 - 18

Unremembered by Elias, from age 11 and onward he was adopted by and lived with the Wright family. The Wright family sold medicine and the father of the family was a doctor. The Wright family renamed Elias/Marie, giving him the name of Emma Wright. Emma hated his name and the suffocating dresses he wore with the rest of the 'girls.' Just when he started to question and explore his gender, Emma would die from a gunshot wound, caught in the crossfire of lawmen and an armed robber at age 18. Such a death turned out to be a blessing, as the Wright family had been in the process of looking for a 'proper husband' for Emma.

Ages 19 - 24

Elias couldn't remember his name, family, where he came from, his hopes, his fears, anything! Well, anything other than that he felt like he was looking at a stranger's body not only from the lack of memories but due to the body's feminine appearance. At age 19 Elias started to take a more proactive role in his own life, gathering his own resources and crafting his own identities post-resurrections. He'd start to wear pants, bind his chest and cut his hair shorter. And over the years, especially once closer to modern times he would start to take testosterone and get top surgery. Sadly between the ages of 19 and 24 Elias would die so frequently that he doesn't remember how many times he died in this period or how he died. However he does have a lot of scars that hint at possible causes of death such as bullet wounds, stab wounds, animal bites, burn scars, acid scars, etc.

Ages 25 & Onward

Elias, despite losing memories every time he dies, has died enough to realize that he can't perma-die. He comes back 'just like a roach.' All injures and sicknesses heal upon resurrection. He's died in a lot of ways and nothing seems to stick, not even dismemberment or burning. Something or someone is keeping him alive and he isn't sure why. Dying is painful and disorientating, so he tries to avoid it when possible. That being said he has a heart of gold and will not just stand by if someone else is in danger. So far, Elias really only has three goals for his never-ending life (see below).
