It was announced that director Fukui passed away a few days ago from complications of his recent cancer treatment. He will remain a legendary icon of punk and counterculture art, a pioneer and pillar of the japanese cyberpunk movement, and will be remembered by many as a very welcoming, curious, and kind person.

Here we have Rubber's Lover, which even featured Ameya Norimizu (bottom left) - Fukui was deeply connected to the underground scene and stayed true to his roots to the end. Thank you for everything.

all these movies share similar patterns: The class work, big factories, giant and industrialized landscapes where the individual feels and shows small, insignificant and ignored. A window into the growing capitalist society in japan.

The incrasement of the industrialized society in japan was one of the reasons why all these movies (incluiding tetsuo the iron man, the biggest reference) and filmmakers started to mix machines with humans. The dehumanization creating a place of violence and self-destruction in the protagonists.
