And of course, Luffy knows it’s not a serious threat (he can just sort of suss these things out, most times), but it doesn’t prevent him from responding in a similarly brash way, even if it’s more or less a joke.
Yeah, that’s all he’s got. Still, it is effective at communicating his sentiment if nothing else! He then briefly sticks his tongue out, before his expression settles from combative to friendly again.
“Besides, you wouldn’t do that anyway. We’re friends!”
“We are not- Argh!” Law snarls, words coming out louder than he’d like. Nothing in this world ruins his composure like Monkey D. Luffy. Always so perfectly controlled and calm. Then this little energetic fucker turned up in his life and everything keeps falling apart. He can practically feel his blood pressure skyrocketing.
Hang on. Does his right arm feel numb?
Law shoves Straw Hat and his impossibly bright smile away from him, his grip on the other captain’s collar releasing. He turns about, hand rising to grip at his chest to feel a heart pounding a little too much. Breaths come short with the stress of Luffy’s latest decision to just lead them into danger. He hunches forwards a little, eyes searching as he pieces through his symptoms.
“Oh, fuck. Think I’m havin’ a heart attack,” he groans.
Right hand pumps his fingers, the pins and needles feeling more like that nerve damage he’s still contending with. Eyes narrow for a moment. Actually, no. This is just a mini-panic attack. Cool. That’s fine then. He can deal with that. A deep breath and he straightens, making sure his lungs can take in as much air as possible while he focuses on his breathing.
