He stayed behind to close despite his last client having settled up hours ago. It wouldn't have been unusual for him to leave her with the keys and leave early but it wasn't exactly unusual for him to wait for her either. When her last appointment leaves, he's stolen a joint from Jay's tin and lit up in the non-sterile stockroom. "Soleil's riding an American cowboy."

Kaz slips into the lobby of her building behind some door dasher and climbs passed a few inebriated people laughing in the stairwell. He's never actually been to her apartment— at least not sober enough that he remembers being there— but he knows the address from the payroll checks.

He adjusts the small overnight bag on his shoulder while he checks his phone, scrolling back through their conversation to see if she'd sent anything else since agreeing to let him crash for the night. Something about it felt juvenile— spending the night on a friends' couch cause your band's gig was on the other side of town and the trains stopped running. Kaz didn't trust ride shares. He knocked a few times on the door, and announced himself through it, "Just me."
