I just finished watching Sex Education Season 3 and can I just say how much I loved the fact that it was Ruby that fought against Hope?

All along Ruby has been Hope's blindside. While Hope harassed Maeve for her hair, Lily for using fashion as a way to express her interests, or Cal and other NBs for the way they wore their clothes, she never said anything to Ruby. Ruby wore her skirt higher and her shirt tighter than she was supposed too, we see her modify the uniform, yet Hope doesn't care. Why? Because by Hope's dated standards about gender, women are supposed to make themselves look attractive/beautiful.

Ruby is actually the only one that represent that through the show. The other main girls all have very particular fashion styles that represent their identity/personnality, or a very bland one that don't say much at all. Ruby is the bimbo. She has big breasts and nice legs so she shows them to appeal to the male gaze. She conforms to what society tell her to be: a pretty girl.

All along Hope fights against any representation of gender that deviate for old school standards, but she accepts the way Ruby expresses herself.

In the end, Cal who represents freedom of expression and gender literally free themselves from the prison Hope tried to put them into and tell her to fuck off.

Ruby being the one that attacks Hope and defends others is just as much a fuck off to Hope's idea of what gender norms should be.
