Thoughts on 65 (2023):
had me at correctly-sized raptor, lost me at whatever that baby dinosaur was??
scifi tech looked more like star wars/ridley scott’s alien clunky, actual tech design rather than star trek/apple sleek stuff, which i prefer
i actually liked the little girl; obviously she just crash-landed on an alien planet and was scared but Koa was also funny, and clever when she needed to be
not great as a dinosaur movie, but still very fun
also. chekov’s geyser.
Do you know where you can watch that Claw movie?
On route to Los Angeles for a standup tour, a pair of friends are forced on a detour in a ghost town where they meet a hungry prehistoric pr

trigger warnings for Claw (2021): - general B-grade thriller movie warnings; gore, character death, jumpscares, etc - dog death fakeout (scene lasts c. 26-28 minute marks) and actual dog death (scene lasts c. 34:00-36:30) - flashing lights - brief depiction of a seizure due to said flashing lights - fakeout bury-your-gays
anyone want to watch Speckles the Tarbosaurus (2012) with me via tutturu 👀? Likely tomorrow afternoon? It’ll be my first time watching it
rewatching 70′s land of the lost and so far it’s... been prettymuch exactly as I remember, even when i take off the nostalgia glasses.
except that i forgot that the old dude with the canon was a confederate so that was a fun surprise
Watching the Walking with Dinosaurs movie for the first time... its.. somethin? The animation is gorgeous though so
watched Area 407 (2012)
aka Tape 407 (2012)
Trigger warnings if you want to watch the movie, as it IS a horror film:
plane crash, showed on screen
character death, lots of it, often on screen
guns
car accident (brief)
fake blood but it looks like pizza sauce
Things I liked:
Impressive that long takes make up almost the whole movie
The acting wasn’t bad! There was a cheesy line or delivery every now and again but most of the time these actors were on their A game here
They were brilliant with what they showed and didn’t show; the tension of seeing only flashes of the creature and mostly seeing the actors’ reactions helped them not lean on a prop that might be outdated in time
Paced quiet moments with scary moments well, I wasn’t overwhelmed and most of the time not bored
Things I didn’t like:
Some of the non-chase scenes were pretty slow. I don’t think they were any slower than a found footage movie should be, but be warned going in
The actors ad libbed their lines, which mostly worked, but sometimes you could just. Tell. There were moments that were clunky with repeating lines, dragged out yelling matches, and a particular conversation that was Too Convenient right before they found clues and flashlights
fake blood looked like pizza sauce!!
Overall? for a found footage horror movie? Not bad! If you don’t mind a bleak ending and a whole lot of tension, I’d recommend it! If you’re looking for on-screen dinosaur content this isn’t your movie, though.
watched Dinosaur Island (2015)
Things I liked:
An overal fun tone; wonder where there needed to be, tension where that was needed. A well-told story!
Clever explanation for the dinosaur island itself, I think it worked
The dinosaurs looked pretty good, actually! Not perfectly integrated into the live action environment, but damn it they move like real animals!
Things I didn’t like:
Most of the acting was meh and they relied on mediocre child actors as leads.
There was this part in the middle with some natives, of course african, that was vaguely... savage-coded. I don’t have the right experience or vocabulary to describe it but it felt kinda racist ngl
It shares its title with an incredibly horny 1994 movie, an interesting move for a film definitely made with children in mind. Probably not their fault but its funny trying to look up information about it.
Overall, I’m glad I saw it. It was a fun flick. Could do without the weird native stereotypes in the middle, but besides that, it was okay.
