Scream Queen - Samantha Sloyan
Crappy Dinosaur Movies!
I've seen a lot of crap dinosaur movies -- and I'm always up for more, but this is a bridge too far! After video babysitters of the 20th and 21st centuries, after slurpasaurs, after Jurassic Knockoffs and Asylum. This is what got me to take a break on it.
Take a look at this animal. Generic T. Rex head, prominent brow horn, uniform teeth. Usually, when you see a horn like that, it's easy to call it out as Ceratosaurus.
Not here! In the Trailer for the 2022 film Timescape, this pixilated piece of putrefaction is instead dubbed a T. Rex. I haven't seen a T. rex with a horn on its nose that big since King Dinosaur -- and that was actually an Iguana!
And I just finished watching a film, Hatched (2021) which was actually rather decent. Definitely a B-Movie, but there was definitely effort put into it. The rendering and integration of the dinosaurs there could have been better, but they looked like what they were portraying (the "Raptors" we Deinonychus, with the proper head shape and sizes! Their hands were pronated! No feathers, though, but I'll take what I can get on a low budget!). To follow it up by seeing this trailer? Man, it was a hard hit! Though to be fair, Hatched cleansed my pallet after finding out someone's trying to make a sequel to Area 407, and seeing Wolf Tracer's Dinosaur Island and the worst video babysitter I've yet seen: Dino Brained. Seeing that name applied to a horned therapod like that brought me right back to Dino Brained and them passing off Albertosaurus as Abelisaurus.
On the plus side, I can now say: "If I had a nickel for every Dinosaur movie with Zombies, I'd have 3 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened 3 times."

Like A Leaf In The Wind - Lois/Laura Hawkins
A/N: Day 13 for @angstober
Lois is shaking, she’s been shaking ever since Laura managed to pull her from the plane in time to avoid the creature that had attacked her. The blankets Laura has wrapped her in are helping a little, even as Laura’s hand slips into Lois’, leading her on as they move ahead of the group, Laura’s focus locked on the road ahead. That night, locked tight into a home, Laura pulls her closer, stroking her soft copper-brown hair and smoothing a hand over her back when Lois snuffles, fighting to stop shaking even as Laura gathers her closer, pressing a soft, reassuring, kiss to her hairline. “We’ll be okay Lois, I’ve got you. I won’t let them hurt you.”
Survival Of The Fittest (Is Bullshit) - Jimmy/Lois/Laura Hawkins
A/N: Alt 2 for @polyamships. This is AU as all heck.
“Laura!” Jimmy’s call is quick, his arms wrapping around Lois even as she crumbles, falling into him so suddenly he barely has time to avoid dropping her. All of them suffer constant survivors guilt but he knows Lois is struggling with more. She had been half-carried home when they were finally released from interview after interview, collapsing completely when confronted with Trisha and Jessie’s parents. “Lois?” Soft hands come to pull her back upright, Laura’s quiet steadiness has been a blessing. She’s quiet when she breaks apart, choosing to let herself cry hidden away whilst Jimmy watches over Lois. Jimmy, she knows, tends to cry the days he takes long walks. Neither dares share their woe with Lois, she’s already barely surviving her own guilt. “Shhh, it’s alright…” It takes three steps to bring Lois to the sofa, Laura quick to sit, drawing Lois into her lap even as Jimmy moves to find water and Lois’ medicine, bringing both to the sofa and letting Laura handle getting Lois to take it, his voice soft when Lois starts sobbing, taking the medicine and water without complaint, his touch soft on her back. “It’s alright Lois, we’ve got you Sweetheart.” It will take them months of this, months of therapy together, to move past it all, remembering but no longer crumbling apart even as they stay bound together.

Horror Movie Review: Tape 407 (2011)
A found-footage horror that sticks rigidly to the formula set out by countless others before and copied by countless others after.
Tape 407 or Area 407 as it is also known, is a found-footage horror movie directed by Dale Fabrigar and Everette Wallin. It stars Abigail Schrader, Samantha Lester and James Lyons. A found-footage horror that sticks rigidly to the formula set out by countless others before and copied by countless others after. On that front, it can at least be praised for being an undeniable found-footage movie.…

watched Area 407 (2012)
aka Tape 407 (2012)
Trigger warnings if you want to watch the movie, as it IS a horror film:
plane crash, showed on screen
character death, lots of it, often on screen
guns
car accident (brief)
fake blood but it looks like pizza sauce
Things I liked:
Impressive that long takes make up almost the whole movie
The acting wasn’t bad! There was a cheesy line or delivery every now and again but most of the time these actors were on their A game here
They were brilliant with what they showed and didn’t show; the tension of seeing only flashes of the creature and mostly seeing the actors’ reactions helped them not lean on a prop that might be outdated in time
Paced quiet moments with scary moments well, I wasn’t overwhelmed and most of the time not bored
Things I didn’t like:
Some of the non-chase scenes were pretty slow. I don’t think they were any slower than a found footage movie should be, but be warned going in
The actors ad libbed their lines, which mostly worked, but sometimes you could just. Tell. There were moments that were clunky with repeating lines, dragged out yelling matches, and a particular conversation that was Too Convenient right before they found clues and flashlights
fake blood looked like pizza sauce!!
Overall? for a found footage horror movie? Not bad! If you don’t mind a bleak ending and a whole lot of tension, I’d recommend it! If you’re looking for on-screen dinosaur content this isn’t your movie, though.
