Burn the Witch || Jean & Scott

Tomorrow was the new moon, and Jean could feel it. Her powers waxed and waned with the moon, which left her feeling weak at this part of the cycle of the Earth and sky. It was approaching midnight now, but Jean was still outside, staring up at the dear lady in the sky. It was dark without her light shining down into the valley, and Jean was looking forward to a week from now, when she and the moon together would get their strength back.

It was the sound of horse hooves that roused her from her thoughts.

Jean turned and saw her dearest friend of many years galloping up to the house. She frowned; Scott never came here this late. Not unless something was wrong.

Drawing her cloak closer around her shoulders, she walked up to the road so that she could meet Scott at the front of her cottage. “Scott,” she said, frowning up at him. “What are you doing here?” She hadn’t seen him in weeks, and she assumed that he’d been trying to diffuse suspicion from her. Sir Stryker, the captain of the guard, had been on a witch hunt for years now, never knowing Jean was the very witch he was looking for. Scott helped Jean stay hidden so she could keep doing her work. But this late night visit from her oldest friend was very concerning to her.
