Cotton Candy Sky's
Thomas, Lizzie and Ruby one shot ficlet. No warnings apply. Fluff
Thomas Shelby walked back to the caravan from a brisk morning meeting with Johnny dogs. The frosted ground crunched gently beneath his feet. A delicate shimmery silver frost kissed the landscape as it crested over the hills and valley. The view giving way to a waking camp.
Council demands were taking a toll on his physical health and Lizzie suggested going on the road to get him some fresh air and get Ruby a chance to wander new territory.
He'd eagerly agreed, desperate for a chance to feel the crisp air and warm cedar filled woodsmoke in his lungs.
In truth the business never stopped. There was always something to be done whether it was dusk or dawn and his mind was ever turning like a constant machine of brain and opportunity.
His cigarette twisted and contorted in the wind as he could now see the two crouching figures near the crackling fire.
Lizzie and Ruby are awake and draped in a quilt. Lizzie's soft motherly smile broadened at whatever their daughter had said. Ruby was pointing to the sky.
"You two are up early." He mused as a dark arched eyebrow rose on his wife's face. She didn't look amused by his assessment. A deep rumbling chuckled left his chest.
Lizzie was a prisoner to their daughter's schedule. When the sky was awake, Ruby Anne Shelby was awake.
"Daddy look, cotton candy." He followed her finger and squinted as a golden halo broke through over the horizon. He turned and squatted down next to his five year old daughter and placed his hand firmly on her waist.
"I keep telling her they are clouds." Lizzie's amused voice wafted between them.
" I can see the resemblance." He said softly.
" Do you think it tastes like spun sugar?" Lizzie asked a rare moment of whimsy.
" I think the pink tastes like bubble gum, the blue like raspberry and the yellow like lemon." Ruby's sweet voice was chipper and very awake for 6 a.m.
"Interesting flavors to put together." He mused. He ashed his cigarette and shook his head trying to imagine the mingling flavor combinations.
"On my birthday can I have cotton candy?" The adults laughed. She was a quick child. Still had her train of thought on the track it wasn't stopping at any station though.
"As long as you don't put the bubble gum flavor next to the lemon, eh." He knew she'd remember, probably talk about it everyday until her birthday.
I appreciate all interactions! I interact back.
